Dance Company vs Color Guard
denverjohn replied to oldbandguy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I remember the year Cadets guard went to "comas" as a replacement to simulated rifles claiming that the rifles were too "militaristic". -
Santa Clara Vanguard 2024

I'm thinking it was a "star" corps that was spun out of a prior year "alumni corps"? -

Pre-met: "Four for nuthin'" or "Four for free" -
Troopers 2024

I think that the new Trooper brand has benefitted from the popularity of Yellowstone. Cowboys are cool again. Now I just want to see a huge guard full of "Beths". -
Corps That Have Moved and Why?

Good thing they didn't sing the lyrics to one of the songs from Hair: "Prisoners in ******town" from that show. -

When I spent my junior year in Spain, I had Madison visions in Malaga. -

I noticed Matt (drop the hammer) Harloff getting excited in front of his Avon H.S. to the left of the pit. Matt in a suit is a rarity. Search the "tube". -
Santa Clara Vanguard 2024

Since most techs are barely above age-out age of 21/22, I propose that all tech job descriptions should read: Must be 21 or under and be willing to march and wear a uniform. Tech staff teaches themselves. That would save a bunch of space while on tour and housing space. -
Social media (Facebook posts) are "in the cloud". Perhaps they use college-age volunteers who are busy with life. If they use "paid" "social media" people, I could make a guess that they are not being paid right now due to financial reasons. People at the top have resigned. Assuming that there is a team huddling together monitoring on a daily basis would be a presumptuous assumption. Things don't work in emergency situations. I cut them some slack for being a day or two behind of website announcements, additions, and deletions.

I think they were just making up for the absence of 3 or 4 or 5 Rennick solos last year.

A Cost-Cutting Proposal
denverjohn replied to IllianaLancerContra's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I would be interested to see the d.c.i. rule book that defines which vehicles are defined as trucks and (to be fair) the square footage would have to be equal for each corps so Tony DiCarlo could fly out to each corps spring training with tape measure in hand. -
Cadets Suspend for 2024
denverjohn replied to TheOneWhoKnows's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Yep. Look at how many people dressed up for prom standing behind the back sideline at finals retreat. 30, 40, 50 per corps? -
Cadets Suspend for 2024

You are actually not too far off. Lots of "woke" messaging ever since "narration/preaching" overlaid music books. -
Cadets Suspend for 2024
denverjohn replied to TheOneWhoKnows's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
The real factors are political, cultural, spiritual, economic, and demographic but we are not allowed to discuss those on this forum. -
But the 7 corps left could be none of the original 7 at this rate. 2 down at present.

My 2 cents (adjusted for inflation). Energy costs affect everything. Drill baby, drill. (No marching pun intended.) -
"Twirling Corps" of the 60's and Early 70's
denverjohn replied to BeachDrums's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Maybe some corps could hire a twirler and feature the music of Jethro Tull. (Oh, wait.) -
Maybe inadequate rookie judges could receive purple pencils?

I think John was learning from his dad Jack a lot longer than he was learning from Wayne.

Way Too Early DCI 2024 Discussion
denverjohn replied to IllianaLancerContra's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
But, will it really be a 4-peat since the "3-peat" has an asterisk due to Covid? -
Spice up the backyard garden with a few generously sized Greek styled columns. (Comes with a few decorative rocks in jumbo size).
