Good lord!!! Look at the gap between Alliance and Fusion Core!

Not to mention that the current top 6 in Class A have either been ranking in Open or have been within striking distance the whole season. The real excitement will be, as many have said, at the bottom half of Open Class this year.

 Labor Day weekend can't come soon enough! (Well, partly because my mother-in-law throws a wicked bonfire...)

Cru will have the home court advantage come finals weekend but their scores are just going up a couple of points each contest where other contenders are going up 3-5 points between contest. It will be interesting to see what their next score is on August 16th in Scranton.

Cru moved up 5.375pts from Lawrence to Waterloo.

We are officially in the part of the season where the "stopped-in-time" West Coast scores go down, down and down the polls...

the scores only count on Labor Day weekend. til then it's all one big tease

Have journalism I owe, I owe. Quickly:

I've been to the Georgia Dome, Jax State U. for Spirit's show and to Music City Legend's DCA South "MCL Metal II." The show in Hendersonville, TN, was stunning. CorpsVets were so clean. Music City Legend has one of the most energetic shows I've ever witnessed. Adding visual tweaks, look out for MCL. Alliance was the most amazing 6-day improvement I can recall. If Alliance can keep that synergy going, look out for "the other Atlanta corps."

Again, the battle for 10th is the most intense I can remember. Other corps like Empire are creeping up on Bucs. 'Tis fun to watch that battle. Kilties remain hot.

Trust me, Renegades pulling off their typical August magic.

So, not to beat a dead horse... but I was looking at fromthepressbox.com and looked at the scores from the TN show last year:

August 4, 2007

Corpsvets 83. 488

Music City Legend 74.900

Alliance 69.600

Gulf Coast Sound 68.463

August 2, 2008

Corpsvets 83.638

Music City Legend 79.375

Alliance 79.175 (0.8)

Gulf Coast Sound 70.813

The same weekend, and the Corpsvets virtually stayed the same from the last year. However, look at Music City and Alliance's scores!!! This is going to be very interesting at the end of the season. This time last year, Alliance was around 14 points behind Corpsvets. The funny thing is that even with the scores this close to each other, Corpsvets are in 7th in the standings and MCL and Alliance are in 12th and 13th (respectively).

To top that all off, the Statesmen are closing in on the Buccaneers!!! What a great finish this is going to be!

Not to rain on anyone's parade, and I enjoy the current standings as much as anyone, but in all fairness to all corps, the final call won't come until PRELIMS. Let's keep in mind that Prelims everyone starts at Zero, and their are a huge amount of variables to take into account, one being judging panel, and the other being when you go on at Prelims, everything is so bunched up in both Open and Class A, anything can happen.

Just my two cents.

Alliance and MCL are both within striking distance of CV and the scores have never been tighter between them. All three corps have this weekend off then meet in Atlanta for two home shows head to head.Should make for a very interesting show.

Statesmen have walked this walk before. They are huge crowd favorites and have the home field advantage.I think they will do extremely well at DCA this year.Everyone I have talked to loves their show.

I have no doubt, with the anniversary this season, that ES enjoys accolades from many DCA fans. About the "home field advantage", though...

In '06, we closed the gap a lot with Bucs the Corning/Scranton weekend. (At separate shows, the gap was about 0.4 or so.) At Prelims, and again at Finals, the gap ended up about 0.25. Yes, Ernesto kinda scrambled things, but, speaking as a Statesman, being "at home" was not all rainbows, moonbeams, and brown paper packages tied up with string. Finally, IIRC, Caballeros were voted "Fan Favorite" at Finals.

Yes, at the last show ES scored almost (0.4 away) as high as Bucs, but that was a week later. In 2005, Reading took 2 weekends off from competition (and took one off completely), they came back at Syracuse with a really big margin over us (about 3 points, IIRC), even though we had been moving up in the interim.

If the margin at Scranton next weekend between Bucs and whoever is second is less than before their break, I'd be very shocked.

Let me suggest another scenario: In 2001, the Brigs were mowing down the competition. But, because of the rules and the way Bucs and Brigs scheduled shows, Bucs ended up seeded higher than the Brigs in Prelims and performed last. Yet, Brigs won with a pretty big margin anyway. Come Finals the next night, it ended up being only a 0.1 difference. However, in the final analysis, Brigs remained DCA Champs. I propose that it may get interesting at some point here, but in the end the Bucs will remain DCA Champs for 2008.

So, my head is saying Bucs, but let it be clear: my heart is pulling for Statesmen.
