kusankusho
with the new rules, its legal, So What if they had a bass player, its better then being top heavy due to lack of contras, the balence will fix itself The balance gets fixed by the instructors if they know their jobs, not by a synthetic toy. But in the world of "easy" maybe you're right.....
bawker
Are guitars allowed under current rules? I guess they are now. Cool. So, this means we can literally field: 1 lead singer (miked) 1 drum set 1 bass guitar 1 lead guitar 1 rhythm guitar 1 synth . . .with 144 color guard members. Man, this will totally make things easier to clean. To hell with contras . . .get rid of the whole hornline and battery! That, my friend, is progress. Lance
I didn't know they were legal. Yuck. But really, even last year, we could literally field: 10 mic'd singers 5 drumsets 25 horns 90 colorguard But, nobody did, and I don't think it's going to happen thank goodness. Apparently, THAT can now be called "Drum and Bugle Corps"!!! Edited June 20, 2009 by jjeffeory
NR_Ohiobando
Saw a vid of Spirit. Hornline is kickin, drumline sounds pretty good. Bass seems overpowering to me. That might have something to do with my extreme dislike for it, but I think I'm right. It's like a bass soloist accompanied by a corps.
JT76
So, wouldn't amplification be considered a musical cop-out as well? Since you are able to change the dynamics of any area of the corps with no effort from the players?

Since you are able to change the dynamics of any area of the corps with no effort from the players? IMO yes. I don't like that either; mostly because I've heard the quality put out by corps pre-04/05 and I'm convinced we don't necessarily need it.
