What was the first drum corps show you attended?

Recommended Posts

June, 1981 in Cary, NC. My first drum corps show ever also happened to be my first show marching with Long Island Kingsmen. Missed the Defenders who were on after us. Saw North Star, Spirit, Bridgemen and 27th.

1974 Hershey, PA DCA show..... Concert side (8,000) was sold out so saw the show from the back stands which was interesting as Buccs knocked off the Cabs and lot of programs started flying. LOL, Cabs website has a vid of their show from that night.

1 Reading Buccaneers 82.25

2 Hawthorne Caballeros 80.75

3 Yankee Rebels 77.90

4 Rhode Island Matadors 71.65

5 Erie Thunderbirds 58.95

Exh: some small NJ Jr corps that no one remembers the name

LOL, saw my first show about 8 months after I joined my first corps and about 5 months after that corps went under. Second show I saw in it's entirety was '74 DCA Finals (we missed the cut).

Evanston, IL. 4th of July, 1979. Went for the city fireworks, got hooked on the drum corps pyrotechnics instead.

1. PR (flawless and left immediately to get to Soldier Field in Chicago for another show).

2. Cavaliers

3. Kilts-saw them in exhibition at the Evanston festivities the year before, first corps I ever saw.

4. Pioneer-most stage junk ever up to that point, but a fun show.

5. Saginaires-came off the line with streamers. A contra player went down and scared the #### out of me. Joe Bruno introduced them as "From Saginaire, Michigan...The Saginaires!!!"

Blue Devils home show: 1972 Precision West in Pleasant Hill, Ca.

In attendance:

1) SC Vanguard featuring soprano soloist Wayne Downey

2) San Francisco Conquistadors, taught by Wayne Downey

3) Capitolaires. I don't think they were renamed to Capitol Freelancers yet, could've been.

4) San Jose Knight Raiders

5) Stockton Commodores. My favorite corps and the only one I remember.

There were probably others. My dad has a recording of that show. I was surprised at how well Blue Devils sounded in 72.

Sometime in 1979, Michigan City, IN, at the original Ames Field.

Fell in love with the Guardsmen at that show. I believe SCV, Troopers, and the serious VK were also there along with Cavies.

I remember that show. PR was on first in Evanston and left for Soldier Field. We were on first at Soldier Field and last in Evanston. We both had police escorts and passed along the way.
