No, she is one of my favorite singers, named Deng Li Jun (AKA Teresa Teng). Sadly, she passed away in 1994 from asthma attack.

In the 70's and 80's she was as big all over Asia as...oh...Barbra Streisand in the US. She was really the first pop superstar in mainland China.

She had a very pure and sweet voice, perfect for ballads.

Thanks.

My wife and I got married the week before finals in 1984, and went to semi's and finals as part of our honeymoon! When dating, we went to some shows as well, so she knew what she was getting into. She has continued to put up with my addiction, and is usually good for at least one live show per year. I took her and all 3 of our kids to 2008 Championships - first championships all together including the kids. It is extremely cool to hear them all get very vocal about who has their favorite show in any given year. In 2008 they were partial to Phantom, Crown, and Bluecoats.

Over the 24 years my SO has been to several shows. She has be tolerant but lately she has put forth to talk about what corps are playing to watch shows online and went to a show last year. Boston and Phantom were her fav last year.

My girlfriend is a fan of the marching band and drum corps activity but only came to be a fan soon after we started going out. Due to the fact that we started going out after I got home from tour, she didn't know what drum corps was and had never been to a show. I took her to a marching band championship just to give her a not so good taste of what to expect. She enjoyed the variety of shows and was able to notice the achievement levels as well. She has a sense of pitch (she can sing) and can play guitar so she's not musically ########....thank god. But she's going to finals this season since it's my age out and her only chance to see me. She can't wait.:doh:

FWIW:

* my wife marched one year longer than I did (she marched 3, I marched 2).

* my wife has been to more finals than I have (she went from 90-98, me from 92-98).

* I met my wife when we were both teaching a Division 3 corps (she taught more years of drum corps than I as well)

Since we've met, we've mostly gone to shows together, though once or twice she has stayed home with our son; usually the son goes with us, and he saw his first live drum corps when he was less than two (when we went and watched SCV rehearse in 2004). She typically watches the Fan Network streams with me on weekends during the summer, and we both fondly debate our favorites (though we probably agree more than disagree). In all honesty, she was the one who convinced me that I "had" to march drum corps (i.e. make drum corps fit into my schedule of college, work, and planning our wedding), and I'm truly blessed/thankful to have found a wife that supports and understands my passions.

That being said, I think that these days, for one reason or another, I probably follow drum corps a little bit more than she does; I think I'm slightly more interested than her (she doesn't follow DCP at all, doesn't check scores nightly during the season, check to see who is playing what before the season, etc). But we typically attend drum corps shows together, or watch them together on Fan Network (and I dare not get into a debate on who loves drum corps more  ).

Both my wife and I marched so that's a major plus. She with Stardusters-Bleu Raeders ('70-72) and me with SCV ('66-'72). While we both enjoy going to shows today she doesn't get all into it as much as I do. She won't watch a DVD of drum corps but does like to go shows (which is what I enjoy!).

No

I have friends that I go to shows with instead but I have recently realized that they only go to shows because I set it up, buy the tickets and such, am I dragging them there?

I call drum corps my secret geek and treat the media as porn, only for personal use and not around others

My wife is fond of saying a Kenny Chesney concert makes her feel the way drum corps makes me feel. While I can't vouch for the accuracy of her assessment, her statement surely is an accurate indication of the gap between our tastes.

She has been to a couple of shows with me. She complimented the live experience. Video and audio in the house, however, are sure to evoke complaints.

My daughter, on the other hand, has joined me for many a show and many more videos. She's 11, a trumpet player and a dancer - my best hope for putting my wife in the seat beside me for corps.

Just last night we had a little fundraiser night for The Academy Winterguard at a California Pizza Kitchen. My husband brought up that we should go yet he had to endure a night of me swapping tour stories with my "tour buddy." He goes to our home shows only and even volunteers at them when needed. He has been truly supportive of me going on tour to drive or cook for the Academy so I should be thankful. Someday I hope he will go with us and help on the road but it just is not as much fun for him.
