Corbin
Spirit of Atlanta 2011 has mellophones that are at least not afraid to play. They definitely go for it.
Todd Tanji
Pretty much every show I've seen so far is either great in it's entirely or has great moments.
Lance
bloo's 2011 show is really nicely designed, IMO. opener is great, and the rest of the show has the same clear writing as last year, but it's not recycled in the slightest, IMO. kdaddy
Saw Academy this weekend - love practically everything about it. Uniforms look great. Such a wonderful musical design. How on earth did it take so long to get Lollapalooza on the field? I have little clue about what the show is about, but it'll get a lot of airtime on my itunes.
connorthemello
Academy has a great music book this year! And even though Phantom Regiment hasn't been getting much love... I think this is one of the most lyrical and emotional shows they've ever had. Love it!
Cardman
I LOVE Crown's whole show this year. Their brass is amazing, and the arranging (in my opinion, of course) is masterful. Cavies have an AWESOME visual package this year. When they put the new ending in, look out! Cadets are once again executing a very exciting and visually interesting show. They are likely to take it all. I'm glad Blue Devils are playing more audience-friendly music this year. I love Phantom's music this year, once again. Just beautiful! SCV has one awesome percussion section this year. Madison Scouts are going to move up in the ranks this year, I believe. Blue Stars have a really exciting show that I can't seem to get out of my head.
bmroth1
Absolutely loved Bostons show last night, was very surprised haven't cared for their shows last couple years but this one has great music and a great design and flow.
POSITIVenrgy
Academy's show is one of my favorites! I love Lux Aurumque......it is so beautifully done. Subtle and a bit haunting, I choke up every time the horn player hits that one, lone, high note.
GlassmenBtone
While on tour, my personal hype was Teal Sound. I marched somewhere, somewhere a bit "higher up" than Teal Sound. One day, we woke up at the school we were at around, say, 8 am, having got in pretty late the preceding night. It was extremely hot outside, the practice field was very far away, and no one wanted to do anything. When we get over to the practice field, we learn that Teal Sound is using a neighboring field and is in that last hour of their ensemble block, which means they've been awake and rehearsing for at least 3 or 4 hours. They then left and went to the show around the time we started rehearsing. There's a rant in there somewhere about how the performance schedule in drum corps reinforces scoring and discourages movement due to lack of time, but my point is that Teal Sound is cool. We had our truck pulled up to theirs and we played In the Presence of Enemies out of our speakers for them. Wait give the smaller corps the same amount of daylight as the g8? Then they will get as tan as them too and you know they like to be the darkest!
lisard5
BK and Cadets my favorites this year so far, with Crown close.
