perc2100
Paul told us several reasons they decided to switch at camp this weekend: Dynasty is easier to contact, easier to customize with, and easier to get spare parts from. He prefers the way the keyboards are tuned, and likes the field frames more. He dislikes how Pearl quads are set up, and how much of a hassle they are to maintain. SCV is getting new audio equipment as part of the switch, and new equipment for the Vanguard, the Cadets, and the organization's WGI Ensemble. And he's been working with the company for two years to design his own snare drum, which we'll be using this season. So it's more than just the snare drum, even though it's also about the snare drum. And, just to make sure we're clear, the brass is still playing Yamaha. Also his contractual obligation: that's the most important part (I don't mean that to sound snarky, but seriously, that's the biggest reason). And saying Dynasty is easier to customize with is laughable at best, disingenuous at worst. They have a VERY limited customization pallet to work from, and even those are not exactly as high-art as Yamaha, Pearl, or even new kids Mapex and Tama. I have no doubt that someone as high on Dynasty's payroll can get whatever he wants, but I've never seen a Dynasty custom finish that looks even remotely as interesting as Yamaha or Pearl. I won't disagree with the Pearl tenor set-up, though. As far as "SCV getting new audio equipment" you mean electronics? Does Dynasty make that stuff now?! InspaDave
This does not come as a surprise seeing as how Rennick has been a Dynasty man for years. I am sure he will make the drums sound fine from a tuning aspect. The playing is without question. This is good for Dynasty. They have lost some big name endorsers recently: Blue Devils and Rhythm X. They needed a big name corps to keep their name in the spotlight.
FlamMan
Well it is odd for SCV and BD to be using the same company. It only happened once before in 75 with BD using Slingerland or was that 74 and 75 I forget. I was kind of hoping SCV would switch to Tama but it does make sense that Renick has such pull with Dynasty. Didn't BD just switch to either Yamaha or Pearl? Regarding SCV & Rennick, to me, Rennicks writing just doesn't sound & feel like SCV. His style is so different that I notice it in a bad way. SCV playing DyNASTY is just wrong.

KenDrum
The only reason SCV switched to DyNASTY is that Rennick is on their payroll. I'm not thrilled with the switch either. But in these economic times no company can afford to pay an endorser. That goes for drum set artists and Marching. Maybe they get discounts and high profile artists get free stuff but I doubt a company the size of Dynasty pays when Pearl and Yamaha don't. euphman89
Can we please confirm that this is so far just drums that are making the switch. That's what it sounds like, but the possibility of SCV's hornline being on Dynasty is...saddening to say the least.

I agree I get the move and whatever but to me, it really pushes the idea that DCI is little more than a marketing shill for the equipment companies and that the equipment companies are the ones shaping and directing DCI You’re not watching art, you’re watching a commercial !!! That's what it sounds like, but the possibility of SCV's hornline being on Dynasty is...saddening to say the least. It's just the drums. It's been posted on the SCV facebook, straight from Fiedler. The horns will NOT be changing, they will stick with Yamaha. Switching the horns to Dynasty would be a stupid move for the hornline.

MikeN
Honestly, I'm sure they'll sound fine. I've used Dynasty with my minicorps, and we were quite happy with them. As a drummer, and this is silly I know, my issue with their snares is aesthetic. Without lugs that run the length of the shell, the snares always end up looking kind of dumpy to me.
