vanguard87
And Boston is standing to the side going...where's the hype from when we did it? Still, a great show concept! Speaking of which, literally* nobody remembers that Boston did Les Mis before the Cadets did (just the previous year for cryin' out loud). *not literally
whitedawn
look, 89 Cadets, even in 5th place is a classic...we all know that. But there's a ton of material in the show Cadets didn't even scrape. Sure, those of us around for a longtime will immediately compare it to 89 ( no offense to the other versions done, but 89 is the standard bearer...hell Cadets2 are doing it this year too, and lord knows people will expect them to be 89 all over again). Trust this staff...ya know, guys that did that retreqad in 2008 that, oh I dunno, won the sheets and the hearts of fans worldwide....to put together an awesome show, with a Vanguard yell built in, that will thrill fans from coast to coast and better yet, create a show you don't need to spend hours of research to understand. and hey...SCV and Broadway works. This is a good post. Can't argue with it, I just wish that everyone would try to do something completely new every year. Makes things more interesting, and DCI could use a bit more "interesting."
elmhurstmusiced
It's JD freaking Shaw and the Rennick's doing the music. Do we really think the music won't be good?
flammaster
Ugh. Re-dos rarely ever work. Disappointed. I agree! Edited December 27, 2012 by flammaster

fsubone
Ugh. Re-dos rarely ever work. Disappointed. Ask the Cadets, and the Blue Devils, and SCV, and Phantom.... clearly re-doing a show didn't worked for them....
fsubone
Speaking of which, literally* nobody remembers that Boston did Les Mis before the Cadets did (just the previous year for cryin' out loud). *not literally And Blue Stars did it the year before that. So 1987 was the first time we saw Les Mis on the DCI field.
elmhurstmusiced
And since re-using music is always a bad idea, take a look at Madison 1988. Clearly using Malaguena that year didn't help. For that matter, doing City of Angels in 1992 wasn't as good as 1991 from anyones perspective.
2B or not 2B
If Any Corps can do a show that, any other Corps has played in Full, or in Part. There is a Corps that can play it again, and at it's Best. One that WILL please the Fans. It is the Santa Clara Vanguard. They have proven, time and again, they can take a well known musical show and make it "All Their's". They play Broadway better than even the Eastern Corps, let alone the one that wear's Blue, out there in California. I am more of a Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts fan. But, SCV has always come up with some very good versions of the music. Specialy when it comes to well known music. Bet IT "Becomes the One", the Others are compared too, and Not the other way around (from New Jersey ---- 2B or not 2B) Edited December 27, 2012 by 2B or not 2B
lindap
Oh my what big font you have! Read the book decades ago, saw the play live 2-3 decades ago. Looking forward to traveling to a drum corps show again : )
