Have a great show tonight Cadets! Lets close some spreads...

Looking to see some great new changes tonight. Again Cadets get poor draw with CC and BD following but this just gives more impetus to impress and compare. Cadets had comparitively fine practice weather and a smart move indoors for horn sectionals when storms filled the area and made things wet before the show even as far South as Houston. Current media situation is further impetus for the Cadets to prove how impressive they can be.

this show will sell so well inside / should help with the props also - moving easier on the carpet and no wind

should be a great night across the line up - with possibly the best top 3 ever?

Hey just so you guys know, He apologized for his comments on his facebook page. People are human. No one is perfect. He made a mistake and apologized.

Stop treating him like your revered grandfather who is doting.

"how you practice is how you perform" has been a Cadet mantra for years. Class and excellence are not part-time occupations.

via Cadets FB page:

Cadets have done tons of work over the week

- we added guard scenarios to the ballad

- cranked the tempo for Medea

- added to the soloist interaction in the ballad

- cranked tempo and end of scherzo

-worked and adjusted musical interpretation of ballad to maintain intensity

Here is a look at our worksheet. See if it makes any sense

Changes 7-15-13

Adagio:

-- Pg 1 Block Side 1 movement in the 4 groupings. Soften arc side 2. Did not get to.

Symphony 1:

-- Tempos 160 at begin, 196 at the end. DONE

-- Letter E to Letter F that first flag on Trumpet side move her out so she can spin. DONE

Scherzo:

-- Letter A big lines down the 50 through Letter E. DONE

-- Maybe something in the 4 count, long block. Horns every other line, bells to each end zone. Did not get to. May not do anything.

-- Letter F 8,8,12 counts to Letter G Mello in front of Props. DONE

-- Letter G 12 counts Drums in front of Props. DONE

-- Individual flag silks for High Brass, Low Brass. Nothing yet.

-- Pg 90 “S” shapes hold for Brass. DONE

-- Pg 92 M and Tu movement. (turn) DONE

-- Letter O, Bari and Mello swells. Horn movement. Doing today 7-19

-- End of Scherzo pose. Look at it. Ok with what is there.

Ballad:

-- Guard adjustments. Worked on it the last few. Still more to do but better.

-- Mello soloist involvement. Yes done. Some fine tuning needed.

-- Props drumline. Fix first move out. Working on today 7-19.

-- Flag in the corner. Did not get to yet.

Medea Transition:

-- Work movement into the ground.

Medea:

-- Tempo 196. Done.

-- 10 ct Holds?

-- Maybe move that one Prop.

-- Pairing of 2 middle guard members as the end. Doing today 7-19.

-- Brass movement outside into center 2. Doing today 7-19.

Medea Finale:

-- Jimmy dance at the end. Done. Need to fix his spot prior to leaving.

-- Change guard at end. Not yet.

-- Maybe make Props move easier. Not yet.

And more to go. Always room to get better

Hop's trashing of the south and public airing of problems with a particular school are a major PR problem not just for the Cadets, but for all of drum corps. I'm not offended by what Hop said but if I were a school band director I would think twice before agreeing to host a corps. Doesn't the Cadets have staff who scout this stuff out?

This is the heart of the issue for me. There are only so many high school facilities in the country, and George Hopkins may feel X school isn't up to his standards, but there's another drum corps somewhere that's going to need to stay there someday. This activity's not in a place where you can burn bridges off-hand. Most school districts (in fact, the ones with the best facilities) in the area my corps was based in were completely off limits to us because of issues with other drum corps decades ago.

I've been thinking this is the best since '97-'98. Top three were all championship caliber those two years!
