frachel
French horns are not directional instruments. not sure what you mean by that? The sound comes out directionally from the bell (maybe spread more than a smaller bell instrument), so I would imagine pointing the bell to the audience would direction more of the wave that way. Or are you saying if the bells were directly backfield it would be the same volume as if pointed towards the crowd?
frachel
Unless you ask anyone who has sat behind a French horn section playing FF in a band or orchestra setting. They'll tell you it's directional, alright. You just don't want it pointed in your direction. LOL amen to that! I sit behind the French horns in the bands I play in, and I've seriously considered earlpugs at a few of our concerts.
George Dixon
so I'm rooting for Cadets & Bluecoats tonight I would love to see Cadets give a massive performance tonight and take over 1st I'd also be very excited to see BLOO in second (or first) / I feel they've been underscored. Thursday night I felt they should have won outright with BD in second, Cadets in 3rd (didn't have a terrific run) and then the rest of the field...

George Dixon
Hopefully they come out on fire! they will have a large advantage in drums tonight - and no Kemp on GE will help. The panel is pretty balanced tonight so they should be in good shape.

Doesn't need to be that loud.

It's about timbre, propagation of overtones and reflected sound. It ain't all about volume.
