GUARDLING
Hop actually gained a couple of points with me for bemoaning the lack of crowd response, because I remember the most recent time and he clearly was feeling "bad" for his kids. I think the judge is way off base. This was the reason for creating Cesario's position in the judging criteria meetings, IIRC. I'd bet that judge was either just spouting off or is distinctly out of touch with Cesario's vision of show production. There's an "engagement" aspect to judging, too. And, to drag you back on thread before we kick your team's fannies this weekend, the "core issue" is the staff's reaction to shows and how it can get dislocated from the crowd's reactions and, thus, become a distraction. I think there's an interesting angle to this, though. I, like many of you, have seen corps rehearse. Staff in the stands and right on the sidelines. Has any of you seen that kind of exuberant display from staff during rehearsal run-through? Come to think of it, I don't recall a single time, ever, where staff was so animated at our local show. I'm sure they're a little more hyped for major regional shows. Finals are different or obvious reasons. Anyone else know of staff going bananas at a local show? In fact, they've sat next to me at our local show and I don't recall any being obnoxious in a long, long time. One thing's for sure, having staff down on the field is the perfect solution for all, and a lot better than the days when the recording mics were right above their heads. Several of those early years were obnoxious with staff cheering on the sidelines and drowning out the corps for all time. yes I have seen it at the end of rehearsals as well as local shows, although rehearsals are quite a different purpose. Often it is a way members knowing that what they were being asked to do over and over and over again , finally worked. I think the issue could be as i said earlier over obnoxious people in general , which is not exclusive to staff. I will also repeat that the cost of a ticket gives a person opportunity to react as they choose , over the top or not but there are many who give to the activity way more than any ticket or t shirt price. They also have the right to react BUT AWARE OF THOSE AROUND THEM. Engagement also means very different things to different people and most versed in the different types of programming know it does not mean baby throwing ( although it could ) there is a misconception with many what engagement means I think or at least there can be many forms of it. It also must be looked at and decided whether corps A just has some loud parents on a given night. Noise doesnt equate to good necessarily . As far as obnoxious, often I have witnessed far more obnoxious behavior in the stands then on the track , that's for sure. Does it happen with staff? SURE, not as often I think as it used to. Far less then as another poster said some parents or patrons. I guess it all just comes with the territory and has been there since the beginning of the activity. So the whole point of the thread maybe is just to point something out rather than change anything. So actually I agree to a degree. Exactly where, or with what store, is he or she registered? I'd love to send a gift (that is, IF he or she treats my favorite Corps nicely this coming year.) fsubone
What, is it football season? I want the pain to end. Is Tressel available? Not yet. Still under a show-cause penalty for another two years. UM should have a Harbaugh by then

garfield
Well, I don't know how to embed. I may give sideline antics grief, but this is one of my favorite staff reactions ever. The, obviously, low brass tech at the :15 mark...just...nails...it. Ten second of tone focus, two counts to breath, and WHAM! http://youtu.be/34mGFZC9hDk Edited November 24, 2014 by garfield
jjeffeory
Does anyone know the code to post youtube vids? is it (left bracket)media] LINK [/media]? thanks Yes, it's simply '''[m e d i a]URL[/m e d i a]''' ( without the spaces in media) So your example above would be: [m e d i a]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34mGFZC9hDk[/m e d i a]" Edited November 24, 2014 by jjeffeory
2000Cadet
Yes, it's simply '''[m e d i a]URL[/m e d i a]''' ( without the spaces in media) You can not use URL shorteners, nor can you use https with the DCP board we're using at the moment. Maybe that's changed, but I haven't tried it in a while. So your example above would be: [m e d i a]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34mGFZC9hDk[/m e d i a]" Sweet mother of all that is loud and luscious!!
