MikeD
You're THAT old, Mike???? Holy Cow... Look on the bright side. You don't have to worry about "That's what he said. That's what Abraham Lincoln said." I'll bet that anything he said, he said to you personally. Sine it after midnight...I am now officially 61! My initial exposure to drum corps was 64, actually. Oh...19, not 18.

MikeD
Happy birthday! I hope to be playing drums still at that age :D I hope to keep playing for a while longer. I am timpanist in a community band. Before I was the timpanist, we had a fellow in his mid/late 80's playing timpani. After he left I switched over; before that I was mostly playing mallets. I play other percussion parts when the guy who does most of the snare/set work has to miss. He and I also split playing the percussion book for a community theater production of "Peter Pan" this past spring, doing alternating nights. Plus I play in an orchestra when they need percussion help. Not bad! Not to mention the REAL big job of working with the HS band, and writing the percussion score.

xandandl
Maybe we should copyright this thread and then propose sharing it with the folks below. The licensing fee might go to a scholarship for kids to pay first camp fees to bring more people into our activity. $ to Minn. theyremovingit
As I've stated before in other threads, I'd really enjoy an all Franz Liszt show. Sounds like something Phantom could do. I'd especially love to hear a rousing arrangement of this Liszt work: http://youtu.be/KJbg9V2KnD8 It'd require one hell of hornline but it's not impossible. I'm surprised at the sparse programming of Liszt over the years. I liked Southwind's use of Totentanz and Les Preludes a few years back. Either of the piano concertos would work well, I think. Same with Hungarian Fantasy.
xandandl
Agreed. Phantom Regiment and VK both played it in DCI competition, and Cavaliers were known for it in the '60's, but that was in that other century (and millennium.)
Barifonium
Hey folks, I'm looking for the Music Corps should Do thread. I can't find it anywhere! If it's gone for some reason, I'd like to revive it by posting this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6QqZfvE3Fw I would not mind seeing that as a parade, warmup, or encore tune by a corps... either The Academy, Boston Crusaders, Cadets, PR, Crown... Or heck maybe this could be played as the song the top corps do when they all get together at the end of finals.
