MikeD
My all-time favorite opening is the 27th Lancers "Crown Imperial"...here is 1975... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80h5F4q_HV4 Also love the 2012 Blue Knights opening to "Avian" with the hornline flocking like birds all over the field to the music of the pit. Lots of great openings throughout my time. 1969 St Lucy's opening "El Conquistador", with Manny's soprano opening bugle call followed by this huge hit by the whole corps. Cadets 1997...a great opening. 1976 Bridgemen's "William Tell" in the banana unis signaled a radical shift in drum corps...plus it was an amazing tune.2002 Blue Devil's "Ragtime", as much because it is one of my all time favorite Broadway musicals as anything else, I guess.
Shempy
May have been said already in this thread, but Phantom 2013 might be my favorite opening ever. The beautiful storybook opening drill and light pit and sop solo before the first big hit where the brass restates the motif. Fantastic!
perc2100
BD 1995. Loud, sick, and cut off the announcer. 1995? Didn't that show start with the corps framing the field, spread out, with a slow build (and guard swinging around skulls)?
Bucbari
Lots of moments from which to choose!!! One is... 1975 Madison Scouts. A huge sound from a mile away on the back sideline to open "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue." Wow. Fran if you're going back that far, I'll beat that. One of the most iconic openers EVER!!.....Crusaders 1969 Conquest. VFW finals in Philadelphia

jsd
1995? Didn't that show start with the corps framing the field, spread out, with a slow build (and guard swinging around skulls)? My bad. Hit the "5" instead of the "6", so it should have said "1996". but we are referencing the same show. The opening hit was "Children's Hour Of Dream" by Mingus, and then they did the slow build with the guard carrying skulls. BRASSO
My all-time favorite opening is the 27th Lancers "Crown Imperial"...here is 1975... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80h5F4q_HV4 What the 27th Lancers Reunion Corps did in '94 with it wasn't too shabby either, MikeD. Finals crowd seemed to really get into it. I was in the Reunion Corps, and Man it was a thrill playing this, and the rest of the routine.
