frachel
For me it's probably one of the first I heard. 1982 Garfield Cadets.. the opening 50 seconds of Concerto in F before going into Rocky Point. I am not sure what note that soprano hits. Here you go .. I found a clip of it.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-_-msVNFps Sounds like an F above double C (on a G bugle, so a D above double C on a Bb trumpet).. the 7th staff line above the normal 5. Wonder if they wrote is as-is (all those lines), a double F with an 8va, or a top-line F with a 15ma notation... that's one high note.. Cappybara
I know this show is mostly known for its ending, but 1996 Phantom Regiment's opening to A Defiant's Heart... the field entrance, incredibly timed movements, all black unis, and haunting build to the intro of Ballet Suite.. simply breathtaking! To be fair, I'm a Shostakovich fan but this just lays me out. I honestly see that as the best opener of all time. No show's opener can top that one for me. The build is just masterful and so gradual that you almost don't notice until they finally hit you full volume. What I would do to have been able to see it live
BoyWonder1911
I really like the opener to SCV 99...coming out of the corner with the basses and that 5/4 rhythm slowly building up toward a hit. Same thing with Cavs 2002 Frameworks. I tend to enjoy shows that start out like that and build toward a hit. I tend to not enjoy a show as much when they come out swinging for the fences. But yeah, Phantom 1996 is the Mother Of All Openers. Another good one is Star 91. Man that mello line....wow. Crown 2009 pre-show is beautiful.
