Flguardman
Correct me if Im wrong, but I don't think DCI educates judges in-house from novice to expert. Instead they accept judges from other organizations that have such programs in place. I know --- splitting hairs -- but if there's a built-in gender bias in the pool of available judges, you can't blame DCI for the disparity we see on the field. The problem starts sooner at a more local level. Of course as the administrator of one of the highest level marching arts organizations, DCI probably does have a duty to create and nourish a more gender-neutral pool of judges. Also not sure if DCI actively recruits judges or just accepts judges who show an interest in judging for them. One of my good friends who is a judge in the winterguard community has been very vocal about this for a while now. She even did a podcast with Tim Hinton on marching round table about this issue within the activity from DCI to BOA to local circuits and WGI including diversity not just the female issue. It was a great podcast. Edited August 11, 2016 by Flguardman

ibexpercussion
As is usually the case, the show that wins at Finals will be the best performance of the best-designed show. Other than 1993.

Tenoris4Jazz
Other than 1993. How did they go from a 9.9 in field visual on Friday to a 9.4 on Saturday without doing something like missing an entire set? That's why who's judging at finals makes a difference.
snare_guy_83
Finals Judges from the leaked Massillon TOC sheet... TOC GE 2 - J. Bell: 1st - Bluecoats 18.85 2nd - Crown 18.6 Will be GE 2 at Finals TOC VP - J, Howell: 1st - Crown 19.1 2nd - Bluecoats 19.0 Will be GE 1 at Finals TOC CG - L. Carlson 1st - Crown 19.0 2nd - Bluecoats 18.8 Will be GE 1 at Finals Obviously, this is just a little bit of insight as only 1 of the 3 will be judging the same sub-caption and the Blue Devils weren't at the TOC.
