Smart!
Eleran
Also, FYI ... I watched on FLO last night, and watched a video from an iPad on the 50 below the press box this morning ... WORLD of difference. Didn't nearly seem like such an "off" night as it perhaps seemed on FLO with their mic placements.

I read that there are something like a million kids doing marching music in the United States (not to mention the ones who come from abroad as well). The finalists every year, nine of whom do not medal, represent the top fraction of 1% of these performers in terms of skill, grace and dedication. All this banter is in good fun, but don't lose sight of what is important. exactly! I think sometimes we are all guilty of that!
FTNK
Welp. here we are Some noted how the members seemed tired, unconfident, stressed. They are. I know, I lived it in 2006. Constantly changing the show, especially drill, is mentally exhausting. Then the pressure is on YOU, the member, to clean up what should have been right from the start, and design staff is like "this would be effective if you performed it better!" Who is primarily in charge of the overall visual design package? Including drill, but also costumes, props, flags? Find that guy and fire him, and prioritize replacing them with top-level visual designer. There are way too many moments when members are just clumped or wandering around doing very earnest "acting" like doing the praying pose. Possibly impossible considering what's happened with staff in the last few seasons. I'm sure George D will find this post overly negative, but I am calling a spade a spade.

That OK/TX heat can drain anyone. Very glad they are doing that! I'm so impressed by the corps this year - the members seem to be so positive and amazing. Also the staff, positive and working hard to improve the program as much as possible and be smart about it It's easy (even for me or other experienced fans) to lose the perspective sometimes that not everything works out as first planned. Choosing a good attitude and getting up and going to "work" each day is the best lesson the members could possibly learn this summer IMO. I have a feeling the corps will do quite well in SAT :)

I actually like your postings and rarely have an issue with them I know you care and you're (mostly) being constructive! Personally I like most of the visual design in terms of staging and drill. There are some moments needing refined - I hope they make great changes. The program has a lot of potential IMO
MikeRapp
Maybe because I haven't said it yet this year, thank you George Dixon for being such a positive and insightful voice. I know you bleed maroon and gold, and I know the criticisms are hard to handle, but you do handle it with poise and class. Wish there were more like you around here!

My first love is/was Cadets. But I've always been more of a fan of the activity than a particular corps Such a great thing for the participants IMO This year I have many "favorites" including BD, Coats, Cadets, Boston, BK, BS, Crossmen, Scouts, Regiment, etc.. I really enjoy the variety we are seeing and I am probably more partial to the shows ranking 7th - 25th than the top bunch this season, but it varies!
dcikon2
I think so many on DCP take "their" corps placement too personal. I have read posts on a few sites calling for the firing of the director and/or staff. Yes, we all want our particular corps to do well, but not everyone is going to finish in the top 3. I am just impressed with the quality of shows this year.

I am just impressed with the quality of shows this year. I am one of those and I don't make any apologies for it. I know first hand of what Cadets are capable. I marched a year in one corps where the experience forced me to leave. Then went to Cadets and my first year was just as bad as the corps I left. But when the right staff is there and they motivate the members to do better, be better, focus on the little things, and put out your best performance as if it's your last, then you get something as fantastic as 2000. I could write a book on the differences between 1999 and 2000 in terms of show quality, staff interaction with each other, staff interaction with the members, members interaction with each other, etc. When you come from a corps that has had a lot of quality programs, it's hard to NOT take the placement personal.
