What was the last show that started loud?

Should have clarified: including pre-show.

As another August thread pointed out, lots of corps used to have a pre-show, but it consisted of warm-up music, so even some show that we think of now as having been loud from the start might have had something softer before that.

One from this year in DCI that perhaps qualifies for your list is the Guardians "Radioactive". Prior to the second announcement, the only sounds were some emergency alert system sound affects and "warning" announcements and a crescendoing roar from the synthesizer. Once the announcer says that DCI "is proud to present", they started with a big hit.

One that (maybe obviously) comes to mind for me, was blue stars 2007. Full volume from the first note.

Belatedly it occurs to me that there were three such shows in Rochester this past weekend: Sunrisers' "House of Cards", Hawthorne Caballeros' "Red, White & Black", and Minnesota Brass' "Now Boarding". Although in two cases that's if one doesn't count ambient sounds prior to the corps getting the go from the announcer (Cabs came onto the field to a historical recording, while MBI during set up had airport announcers advising people about their flights while a piano quietly played "The Girl from Ipanema").

Caballeros%20Opener%20Resized_zpsgzukb6k

And remember, "the oxygen will calm you as we plummet".

It's time to get rid of all the unnecessary announcing. "Is your corps ready"? Have they ever said "no, we need more time"? Also, "DCI is proud to present The X" should be eliminated too after the corps is already performing.

A belated "agree" to getting rid of at least the corps is ready thing.

SCV '92 "Fiddler On The Roof" was another unbelievably loud opener, with a great warm-up routine that I miss in today's DCI.

The warm-up was total silent military precision / perfection that only SCV can do justice to. The video doesn't show all of it, but it was amazing. They were making a big, bold statement at finals that year. They stuck their nose up and finished the season "their way." When they finished their show, they won, no matter their placement. You had to be there.

This just reminded me of

...which more than makes the list.

Our 2001 Bluecoats dropped the hammer on the first note as well.

IDK about the most recent show to start loud, but if you want loud openers BITD, Garfield [The] Cadets 1977 (Rite of Spring/Primal scream) & [The] Cavaliers 1976 (Russian Sailor's Dance) were loud from the get-go back in a time when loud was important.

1977 Garfield is one of the best shows ever - rocked from start to finish.
