Phantom Regiment 2017

Recommended Posts

I really liked it, that closer was actually incredible. PR is really just not living up to expectation right now. They need to modernize a bit if they want to stay competitive.

They might need to modernize to become competitive, but I would much rather see them return to pre-2012 Phantom than to modernize for the sake of competition.

CC, thanks for the confirmation on the Sibelius piece.

Finlandia, in one form or another, seems to have been a staple of the Madison Scouts' repertoire in the 60s but does not appear to have been included in a WC repertoire since 1968. I'm happy that Phantom may bring it back in 2017.

Can anyone take a look at the Shostakovich music and identify this piece?

From humming the melody to myself, I can confirm that the Sibelius piece that is being used is "Finlandia."

Not sure about the Shostakovich piece(s).

This was in the most recent video Phantom Regiment released on YouTube. Skip to 1:51 and you'll see sheet music that they played at the December camp. In the middle of the first page, you can see the famous chorale from "Finlandia."

Great episode, the bit on Ford vs Ferrari in 1960s 24 Hours of Le Mans was outstanding. Someone should do a show around autosport or something...hmm.

Trumbull H.S. (CT) Golden Eagles Band did an autosport competitive field show about 10 years ago. Leon May was the drill designer. Peter Horton is still band director there.

It's the same Trumbull H.S. that does so well in WGI guard; this year the band won the BOA Eastern Regional at the University of Delaware.

Pete has done a great job at Trumbull; I judged his band lots of times in the 80's and 90's. Before that he did a fine job at Morris Knolls in NJ, before Ed Argenziano's time with Knolls...MK was the first band I wrote the percussion book for, in 1973, while I was in college (junior year).
