Gah! Other than the Purple Lancers... I can't think of anyone who really used that color who did well in DCA or DCI.

Still have a jacket and it is kinda LOUD. Think jackets came in after the corps had folded to make it more surreal. Oh yeah practiced at AL Post 272 in Linglestown right past the 81 exit

IF MC knew what was going to happen, and gave their blessing ... a part of me can understand why Dan A. would be sort of P.O'd. IF the kid had something else planned and was inspired to go off-script ... different story.

Is Acheson really upset, or does he just feel it necessary that he appear to be upset?

This whole conversation is about raising awareness and taking useful action.  To this marching member, and anyone else, who wants to see change in DCI, here is a Top 3 way to do it:

1) Realize that DCI is the collection of the member corps.  Change happens when you convince these voting members.

2) Get clear about exactly what the problem is and (more important) what you see as the solution(s).  That is, what do you want done?

3) Call, write, or meet with the various corps directors and explain your position.

4) If you think a discussion would be helpful, know that representatives (directors, board members) meet at least twice per year in Indianapolis (January and finals week).  Get on the agenda for one of these meetings.  This activity is about the marching members.  Attendees want to hear your concerns and ideas for solutions.  There are plenty of capable people available to help you work through any details and obstacles.

5) If you are convinced that your solution(s) is/are reasonable, and you are getting nowhere with the above, by all means escalate!  There are plenty of ways to take your position to the larger community.

Seems to me that this Music City member's particular approach has got a lot of people talking, so maybe it worked?

And for what reason. To go with the lawsuit posts above, a “we do not allow members to comment on an ongoing investigation for legal reasons” would cya things nicely imo.

There was a corps in 2013 that did OK with purple pants...

Yeah, Crown likes Purple... And they get a lot of of interesting comments here and there about their attire (Drunk Corps International hit it on the head at one point) :innocent:

This is completely wrong and you're (note the spelling, please) painting in a negative light some of the activity's most ardent supporters.

It is what it is, painting is art as well. Just sending a wake-up call. I was planning on doing my part with a large donation that is now going to Music City. If your being played your being played no offense intended. We're just MMs on the world stage. I was blind all the time I was learning to see. No one is scared no one should put themselves on a pedestal. I plan on watching The Academy a few more times to help with my spelling. Thanks

Creating a spectacle at a talent show is hardly a Rosa Parks moment of bravery

Fair. And as I said before, it would have been braver last year.

(But it's also worth remembering that people viewed today as icons, like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, were seen at the time as troublemakers by a substantial percentage, often a majority, of the U.S. population.)

People were already talking.  Let's guide this person's efforts toward useful input to those who can do something about the problem.

Seems to me that, if this is appropriate, it should have come from the MM's corps staff instead of after the horse is out of the barn and DA has to throw water on a flash fire.

So no one even knows what the person's gender is, let alone what they actually said, but we are sure they are either a hero or a narcissist, and we don't know what DA said, if anything, but we are angry at DCI based on a third hand rumor as to his state of mind.

DCP at its finest.

Not sure where the confusion came from, the member was definitely male, or atleast according to the Reddit post where the info for this whole thread came from.
