LabMaster
You are generalizing with no factual support. I firmly believe there is less stealing of mm’s than you are characterizing. Top staff has more integrity than that. Here’s a scenario for you: mm A goes to corps X where there is a great instructor. After one season the great instructor moves to corps Y. mm A liked being taught by the great instructor and decides to go to corps Y. Fellow mm’s of A also go to corps Y because of their positive experience & liking the great instructor more than their experience at corps X. However, many other mm’s enjoyed their experience at X more than the great instructor. They stay at X. Some mm’s chose to go/follow and some chose to stay. The great instructor stole no one. Great instructors draw talent wherever they teach. Mm’s choose where they feel they will reach their goals, whatever they may be. This may seem like the new normal but there’s nothing new about it. It happens in the non drum corps world everyday.

The name on the contract and paychecks is where first loyalty ought to go.

This used to be considered "bad form" but is now commonplace (even if it is taking place in "private" groups). Sad but true. It happened pre-DCI as well. When Garfield released our great percussion instructor, George Tuthill, after the 71 season, a healthy chunk of the drumline went to the Caballeros where he was also the drum guy. I mean....who would want to play in a drumline taught by the new guy named "Fred Sanford". 😲

Prior to this, Brass Caption Head leaving for another West Coast gig. Staff going all different directions, breaking up one of best brass teams in the activity. Hope it works out for them. Shaw leaving may haunt them moving forward. Cadets with major overhaul, bringing in big name team across the board. Huge upswing in brass and percussion. Phantom trying to bring back magic with Shaw/Sage/etc. Blue Devils adding a key brass position to already great team for first time in a number of years. Other Blue teams making changes of their own. Entire activity will feel shift of theses changes of 2020! Fun time of year!! Devils change is supposedly Meehan taking a step back from an instructional role and purely focusing on arranging. New staff member is supposedly Chip Crotts, making a return to BD #20 in 20

It's not about loyalty but outright theft. FF worked hard to produce that roster. In a sense that roster is their most valuable resource. I realize this is "stretching" things a bit. But it's not about loyalty. Members should be and are FREE to march where they wish. But actively recruiting members is far different than an independent choice to follow an instructor. There's a teacher-student relationship being exploited improperly. Anyway it's now the new normal. So w/e. I mean... They "produced" that roster primarily through having the great staff and placing well Not sure this is some exploitation, and the use of that phrase seems a little odd considering a majority of these students are of adult age
