Soooooo, recruiting at USBands shows isn't working out?  Why aren't you PERFORMING at USBands shows?  Or whatever circuit you're attending....

Isn't it an advantage for your corps to have the additional performance experience?  Isn't it an advantage to show what you can actually do in front of the potential members you're looking to recruit?

The show in Bethel, CT yesterday for USBands had a University band in exhibition just before awards.  That to me, is extremely smart recruiting.  Add in a table with literature and some souvies and you're good to go.  That's the grass roots method.  It's the harder path, but it is VERY effective!

That was U. of New Haven Chargers directed by Cadets alum and former staffer for Cadets, 7th Regt., and former drill  writer for Crossmen, BAC and CT Hurrricanes, Jason DeGroff; he's grown the band from 19 members when he arrived several years back to the present 270+. His assistant director and percussion specialist, Dr. Alex Casimiro is also a Madison and Cadets' battery alum.  The University's Admissions Office loves the band for that same marketing success the poster is inferring for marketing DCA.

Good planning and use of the band. Went to Indiana University of PA which is known for its music school (I went for their know IT school lol). Band also does shows outside of Western PA to get recognition. And in the annual fundraising letter from IUP, the marching band is one of the choices if you want to donate to a certain thing.

True. I saw IUP years ago at USBand events, such as the Central Jersey Regional that used to be held at TCNJ in Ewing, NJ.

Last time I saw them live was IUP (western Pa) at Shippensburg (central PA) football game. After the game they were going to be at a band show (eastern PA) of some sort (forget the details). Band only goes to 1 or 2 away games so they combined the football game with publicity.

Do you think that the majority of the corps would be in favor of merging with DCI? In years past, there were more corps as well as the S and E portion, so why not .......

Thursday .......Quarterfinals 9 am till?

                          DCA Prelims 6 PM

Friday............Semi Finals after noon

                        DCA Finals   7 pm

Saturday....... DCI Finals

Now years ago this would be a problem due to age of most DCA MM's but today?

Those that do work can get vacation time off to participate in DCA and then watch/support DCI. This gives the DCI MM's a chance to see that they could continue after their DCI age out.

The same activity working together will (hopefully) strengthen the activity for years to come!

World Class is not going to give up the prime time movie theater broadcast on Thursday that makes them all money. While working with DCI on sveeral fronts make sense, know full well WC is not going to go for anything that affects their bottom line, and no theater event definitely affects their bottom line. Plus DCI semis now runs from 2 PM until like 11 when you add in the volunteer awards, sponsor recognition, occasional exhibition and the age out insanity. DCA would be scheduled around whatever World Class wanted to do with their day.

Which would be... not much, if anything, left over for DCA.

DCI weekend is not a good option for a DCA title show.

I would need to look at the schedule. I would agree that WC isn't going to budge on anything that makes money unless presented with something that makes MORE money. I think it would have to be something that would be almost a prequel to what is already going on. I'm sure there is an answer that works for everyone.

IMO it would be a tough fit. Weekdays are never a good deal for all-age corps. Saturday AM is SoundSport. And the Sunday the day after the DCI title show... who will stick around to watch DCA?

Sorry to sound so cynical here. The Labor Day weekend thing will continue to be an issue, especially for any corps outside the "traditional" Northeast. But there's no easy answer as to when a DCA title show could be held.

Unless DCA, and its corps, are entirely comfortable with the circuit being comprised only of corps from that traditional region... then, perhaps, Labor Day weekend will remain in play. That is entirely up to them, I would suppose. I will say... the midwestern, southern, and western corps certainly added a nice spark (and several championships for the Minnesota corps)  to the title-show weekend in years past, IMO of course.

Whatever. I have no dog in any drum corps fight anymore... other than I wish all my friends involved with DCA well. They're great folks.
