You can beg or plead. I’m not wrong. Achievement drives the bus. The more achieved with clarity, the more demand goes up. Great you’re hauling ### half the show. But if it’s not clean, am I the judge supposed to give you points just cause you tried, even if you don’t achieve? No. There’s no compulsory factor in drum corps for a reason. You hear complaints now of how much is the same…..you make compulsories required Oy vey!

so no running and not being clean isn’t demand. It’s bad design and instruction because it’s not clean. A judge should not reward it just cause

Show me that on the sheets.  I'm not sure what show you were watching because it was pretty #### tight at finals.  I question your observations.

Ding ding ding ding.......unwritten "compulsory" is causing this.

It's that herd mentality. It works for BD, so everyone else better do it too.

I just went to the Indy BOA super regional, lots of copied ideas there too.

But hopefully ideas being workshopped by top designers

I think it's more challenging to do a lesser amount of things for a longer period of time with consistency at all times. Endurance is a thing and when you get to take breaks with all the different muscle groups, it is less challenging. Also, if one develops a good basics program, that will allow one to do many things consistently between members. It's just a different way of looking at things.

true...but velocity in all white on green turf....dirt sticks out huge. but again....theBD formula, while not always getting huge standing O's works. Show you can do it great, and move on. or do it again with layering a little more on it...bonus.

and lets be honest....its better for the knees and ankles too

Right, but people don't reconcile that the criteria don't necessarily reflect their personal preferences.

"I like corps that march, therefore corps that march should score higher."

i get it. i felt that way a decade ago. but as i got deeper into the science of judging and how what gets rewarded and why....it makes so much sense, regardless of preference.

Having "compulsory" doesn't mean going back to the 60's.  Simply having show minimums would make shows easier to judge side by side.  Unless, you simply want to award shows that do more.  I could live with that.

i want to award shows that perform the skills offered great. i don't care what skills they are, or if they are personal faves or not. Bloo won drums this year, but they didn't play the crazy notes BD did. so which is better? clean. and what specific requirements would you insist on having because honestly, that could stifle creativity.

So there’s no compulsory factor in drum corps? Explain the “need for props” or staging.  Just asking for a a few friends.

i'm sorry where on the sheets or rule book does it say props are required? the key of brass used isn't in the recap, so why isn't Phantom switching back to G? or using mylar heads on the snares instead of kevlar. the activity has always had monkey see monkey do...and at times Phantom has been the monkey doing, and at times seeing.

quick...what corps truly mastered story telling and role playing....soon to be 15 years ago? Now how many corps do role playing and story telling?

Also, I noticed all the trombone "features" that are pretty common in many of the shows. Also, now the props need to be mobile and integrated into the show. They may not be compulsory, but your score doesn't rise if you don't have some moving props.

yet some score better....so obviously just moving alone isn't points. it's how you do it and how well it works that helps. just like when corps added body in the musicians. or dance in the guard. or long chords that had a crescendo at the end of it. or not moving and adding body under features.

hello go back 45 years ago....guard in 3 files by the 50 in the drum solo with flags flying across the rifles who had a toss/catch timed to the last note. or company fronts. or the big final push timed to the gun.

trends and fads have always been around...then a new one starts. Remembers Cadets zigged so everybody zigged...so they zagged.
