  3. That seems to be the case for the exact parameters that I gave, however, Bluecoats aren't doing part 2.0 of 2014 like the other corps that I mentioned. Now some could argue that the spiritual successors ( in some way) of previous shows such as '07 Winged Victory ('80,'82,'91), Phantom Regiment's '08 Spartacus ( '81, '82), '09 Blue Devils' 1930 show ( '88), '10 Blue Devils City of Glass show ( '91), '12 ('91 & '09) and '13 Blue Devils ('09) were are pretty successful shows... At the end of the day, as I say, it's not what is played, it's how it's played. It doesn't really matter in the right hands with the right talent. I believe that Bluecoats will have a great show this year.

  4. By the way, Elvis Presley is definately not dead. As a matter of fact, I saw him in 6 places in Las Vegas, Nevada one night recently. He looked pretty nimble for an 80 year older, I thought.

  5. Personally, after last year's uniform fiasco (cummerbunds falling off the uniform, for example), I think they should just wear the uniform in its traditional form. Leave all the other stuff to the guard. That's just me.

  6. WAAAYYYYY over my head, DrumMan. And for that, you have my respect. (In fact, I think I see the remnants of Skylab still blinking....)... EDIT: Never mind. It finally occurred to me.

  7. I don't have 93, but I do have a video in mp4 format from 1990. I paid a company to remaster a copy of it for me from an individual corps performance VHS tape. I was thinking of uploading to YouTube, but then thought the DCI police would probably flag it and pull it down. I truly wish someone would spearhead the cause and help DCI expand their archives for the fan-network to include the non-DCI finalist groups. I am sure there are more fans than just me that would love to see these historical performances. Is it really that busy in the off-season?

  8. Naw, it's just trendy to do the monochrome, grayscale thingy. I personally can't get behind this minimalist, grays/eggshell/beige/black & white/dull muted colors decor trend. Life is color and it has been well established in psychological studies that environment dictates outlook. Surround yourself with bleakness and it will most likely "creep" (pun intended) its way into your life. Now where is my Prozac? Edit: I was remarking on an existing picture someone thought needed to be retouched to be "trendy" (which also included the ever present Ren and Stimpy written graphics that evidently must be included in all of these types of artistic efforts), not that the Bluecoats were heading that direction with uniform choices.

  9. The '71 Audubon Girls were GREAT! They took 9th in total GE at VFW Nationals prelims, out of 35 corps.

  10. From the clips I have heard, I think I am really going to LOVE this show. Funny thing about Cadets, for me I either really love their shows, or I really dislike them. To me they are the most up and down corps from a music/design standpoint. Shows like This I Believe, Sarah Jones, 12.25 and last year, I didn't care for at all. But I will admit even though I didn't like those shows, I am not sure they shouldn't have place a spot higher for the 12.25 show, and last year, even though I loved Bluecoats(first time ever Bluecoats were my favorite corps show of the year), I am not completely convinced they should have edged out Cadets for 2nd. The performance level on almost every level was better from Cadets over Bluecoats from what I saw. Cadets also have a way of surprising me. 2 years ago when they did the Bartok show, I was not expecting to like it since it seemed like a redone Star/SCV show. But that show turned out amazing, and was my 2nd favorite show of the year, behind SCV doing an old Cadets show with Les Mis. I actually thought between the show design and performance level at finals, that possibly Cadets should have actually won in 2013. There are lots of things I disagree with Hopkins on over the years, but I do give him and the Cadets credit for having the best preseason media and information available. And even on years where I don't care for the show music or design, I will say that those kids are performing the heck out of those shows. But this I am really looking forward to seeing that full show on the field. I think this will be a great show from them. And thanks to Hopkins and crew for alllowing us to hear parts of the show so early before the season begins.

  11. Something that I wholly never expected to have happen to me happened last year. Blue Stars made me cry. I became familiar with Blue Stars from their break-back-into-Finals late-aughts/early-teens run. Stuff like The Factory, and Houdini, and ReBourne. Fantastic stuff, but going more for the brain than the heart. Which very much has its appeal--it's one of the reasons I enjoyed Boston's late-aughts/early-teens run (Neocosmos and The Core of Temptation and Thy Kingdom Come). But it's a different sort of appeal. But this year's show for them...the red plumes with these uniforms just worked, like "oh, this is exactly what the Blue Stars should be" in a way none of the previous uniforms I saw them in did. The music worked very well--Chairman Dances, despite the consternation about it on here when it was announced, worked exactly the way they wanted it to work. The visual aspects with the blueprint worked well. The ballad was fantastic (especially the way guitar was incorporated into the falling action). And then they got into that block, and sang. And that was all, she wrote. The *best* show I've seen them do is still probably Houdini. But last year's is my favorite.

  12. The movement of WGI finals to various U.S. cities was, of course, before the advent of WGI percussion, and now WGI winds. With the establishment of a home office in Dayton, the WGI staff pretty much camps out at UD arena for two weeks to get the championships all done. To do the same for another city for that length of time would probably be a gruesome undertaking for the not for profit that they are.

  16. LOL - fast forward 10 years and Sun was the "milk and cookies" corps according to Fran H.... Kinda like Westshore when we had 5 year members who were finally able to have a legal beer...

  17. The 1968 Skyliners were a great corps, loaded with talent, and it was difficult for some of those cats to process the concept that the Sunrisers, "a bunch of college boys", could actually out-point them...ever. They got used to it, and there were no more "Happy Birthdays".

  18. Sigh. This kind of elitist crap drives me nuts. Because it's not interesting to you, it's clearly not interesting to anyone else, amirite? Kart racing teaches and cultivates good driving skills, and finds and funnels talented drivers into bigger and better cars and racing circuits. It's no more "wasting time" than participating in marching band and drum corps is, and motor racing is only a bazillion times more popular than drum corps will ever be.

  20. Never really left, Glenn. Lurked but didn't post for a long time since I was extremely PO'd re: The Don's treatment and still am, but that was not directed at MOST of the residents of Whoville . BTW, haven't seen Ed Reese on here in a dog's age. Where/why is he hiding? EDDIE, make your presence known!!!

  21. OK, my apologies to Fish. The PM on how to post pictures I just sent you John was edited by DCP. Might be code restrictions. Sorry I could not be of more help. Glenn

  22. Well I did not see an answer to the photo but a lot of hints it reminds me of my time with the DPD where on the range I was rated as a Marksman. There is a Moe Knox photo of Terry Paige playing solo with his fly down and who could forget Whisper, Freddie Steiner was a quiet guy who played a mean horn. SOMF

  23. Fish, I tried to explain by spelling it out with the brackets, [ ] link [ ] and what to put in the brackets, img on the left and /img on the right set of brackets, but even the explanation gets denied. I recall Tony White, the Bill Gates of Photo Posting had spelled it out previously somewhere on here.

  25. Yes, very mello, might even be the first mello side emphasized????? If I'm not mistaken, they hail from a town where folks used to shoot a round object through a peach basket? Wow, talk about not languishing all of a sudden............ Now if we can settle this how to post a pic, we're off and running once again. It also might be much needed therapy for our MIA, The Don.

  26. Yes, it has been languishing for a bit. BUT, there are REASONS for it, not excuses. Our hostess, Nanci, has been dealing with some very demanding family health issues and has not been able to be here to pose "Guess Who" questions for us as often as she'd like. If the residents of "Whoville" can accept this situation, then so can those who drop in here every now and then. Let's show a little compassion and understanding. These are very trying times for Nanci and her Mom and our prayers and good wishes go out to both of them. And also to The DON and Bonnie.

  27. Can I be the first to ask Tes and Flam to get a room - take it to PM. We don't need or want to see this hot mess. It is going nowhere.
