  1. I'm enjoying the Cadets even more now that it's actually the Christmas season.
  2. Where can one get 2.5 percent? Genuine question, not snark. I'm making .75 percent in my savings account and can't find even 2 percent in CDs.
  3. Speaking of Prokofiev . . . Regiment? Crown? Anyone? Anyone? Just the first 1:42 of this is all I ask.
  4. I was there; didn't really enjoy it, mainly because the sound from the singer and his keyboard overwhelmed the sound from the kids playing.
  5. I've been to many first-run movies with a lot fewer than 66 people in the theater. I remember going to see The Hurt Locker in the Washington, D.C. area after it had been out for a couple of weeks, on a Sunday night, and I was literally the only person in the theater. That was spooky.
  6. There's a pretty good YouTube of Teal Sound's final show. I saw it in Chambersburg the night before and really enjoyed it.
  7. I enjoyed 7th Regiment's Beethoven opener, appropriately enough the Allegretto from the 7th symphony.
  8. Further posting on CC FB today: "And CONGRATULATIONS to your BRILLIANT Brass arranger Michael Klesch who made something fantastic with my piece Dreams!"
  9. Thanks for the review; much appreciated.
  10. My son has a phone, but we talk probably once every three or four weeks, with a text or two sprinkled in in between.
  11. I think this thread should be relabeled Carolina Crown vs. Blue Devils on alternating days.
  12. Unless something has changed this year, you can park in the stadium lot. It does fill up, though. Plenty of parking in garages and on the streets around the stadium once the stadium lot is full.
  13. The "True Colors" warm-up is especially awesome. If I'm not mistaken, one of the marimbists (Sieb) did the arrangement of that last year.
  14. Thanks, Corpsband. There haven't been enough YouTubes of the pit this year!
  15. I saw their show in Chambersburg and found it very entertaining. I was really looking forward to seeing it again in Indy come August. Very sorry for the kids and sorry we'll never get to see what progress they could have made with that show.
  16. I wonder if this won't be a growing problem for DCI--finding housing sites as more public schools go to year-round schedules or earlier start dates; not to mention being a problem for the high-schoolers who are marching.
  17. Really enjoyed the show, which seemed better produced this year than last--at least the sound levels were better in the theater where I saw it this year. A thought for the producers: I understand the need to promote the upcoming shows, but it would also be great if you could send a cameraman out to wander around and shoot some B-roll of the various corps warming up in the lot. That would give you something else with which to fill the dead time between corps, other than the announcers filibustering (no knock on them whatsoever; I'm guessing they'd be glad to have a little less airtime to fill while waiting for the corps to get on and off the field). And I think it would actually be a better promotion to get people to come out for a show than seeing dots on a map.
  18. Thanks for the detailed review. Much appreciated. I would have plussed it twice if that were allowed.
  19. "Occupy DCI" could be a great show theme for someone this year, featuring pepper spray, pitched battles between "police" and "occupiers," poor personal hygiene, the whole nine yards.
  20. Good to see Herbert joining the staff now that he has aged out.
  21. Hope I'm not being dense. Is there a link to the blog somewhere?
  22. There's a pretty good Vic Firth recording of the piano part that the announcers always obscured. Google "DCI 2011: Carolina Crown / Recording Session 1"
  23. I plussed every review I read, even if I didn't agree with all the judgments (who does?), simply to thank the reviewer for taking the time and trouble to gather and post his/her thoughts.
