  1. What bugs me? Homers. It drives me crazy when a member, fan or alum of a corps is so biased that they ALWAYS think that THEIR corps got robbed. When someone refuses (or is unable) to acknowledge the accomplishment of another corps or show, I just feel sorry for them.
  2. Rest in peace, brother. I will miss you forever. Love, Dave
  3. Gosh, Sam. I hate to hear that. I will be sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. I hope you, your family, your pets and neighbors all make it through this safely.
  4. I think judges ultimately like to see things that they haven't seen before. New concepts. Fresh ideas. If Pioneer is serious about moving up, they will have to innovate. Right now they are doing the exact same show every year.
  5. When that chick's head BOUNCED off of the field turf after she was murdered. That alone was worth .025
  6. That is awful news, Jeff. I can only hope that the collective love and support from the drum corps community helps you and your family during this difficult time. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Dave
  7. Hmmmm. For next year, I'm thinking the logical next step would be... Some kind of French Revolution show. Complete with a Guillotine. Yeah, that would be perfect.
  8. Hello everyone -- Please say a prayer for my friend David Welch if you have a moment. He is having a second surgery on his brain tumor today at 2:00 and could use the fantastic love and support of our community. David marched in the Garfield Cadets mellophone section in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987. David is a courageous human being and maintains a web site detailing his life with brain cancer here. Thank you.
  9. David Welch's tour diary of the 1984 Garfield Cadets is also available on Amazon.com here: 1984 Garfield Tour Journal It is a great "behind the scenes" look at a DCI tour through the eyes of a 17 year old rookie mellophone player.
  10. What? I'm shocked! The staff would NEVER yell at the members. LOL! I don't remember squat about the platform, but I do remember two things: 1) the day you poured water on your feet in front of us on an obscenely hot day. And then said something about how we "could drink all we wanted in September." and 2) Eric Sabach was the only member allowed to wear sunglasses during rehearsal. Those were the days!
  11. If they ever invent a time machine, I'm going to march 82 Vanguard!
  12. I always liked 83 the best. Very underrated show IMHO. I remember watching them practice in NJ and loving every minute of it. The double dutch rocked! I miss you 27th!
  13. Maybe we should replace rifles with other cool things that fly... like Lawn Jarts for example.
  14. All Cadets DM's had the West Point style chevrons until 1985, when the corps got new uniform tops. I'm not sure why they decided to not continue them, but I know that 85 was the first year without them. In some years, the drum and horn sargeant had the chevrons as well. You can see that the center snare had the chevrons in this photo from 1980:
  15. I totally agree. I have never been impressed with the sound quality from the Cadets mic'd vocals. They always sound "muddy." I'm sure a quality sound guy could work wonders. Right now they sound very amatureish. In contrast, the Blue Devils seem to always do a good job with amplification. Remember how much everybody hated Yowsa? I will say this—that guy sounded fantastic from a quality of sound standpoint. Crystal clear and very easy to understand. And now this year with the laughter—very cool effect and another great job by the Devils!
