"Malaga & Maleguena": Wouldn't mind hearing those two old chestnuts again. Maybe Hawthorne's Alumni corps will get Larry Kerchner to pen a chart for them. On G BUGLES too!!!!!!!!!!!! Elphaba

"Southern Knights": WAAAAAAAYYYYYY back in 1990, an UK corps called "Southern Knights" made the trip over the pond to take in DCA. They were in a show in Connecticut prior to the Championship and achieved a 82 + (12the place) in DCA Prelims, not enough to qualify for Finals. I don't remember if they were designated an "International Champ" or not. Anybody out there have a clue????? Elphaba

"Moved On": Did not know he had left. Thanks for the info. Joe had marched with Park City Pride Alumni at the begining of the corps run. Last trip we were able to make "Back Home", he was still Top Cop. Thanks again. Elphaba

"Not a Bad Summer": The person mentioned as a member of the DCI and DCA 1981 Champion is also now the Chief of Police in Bridgeport. His Dad (Also a Bridgeport cop) was a snare drummer for the old Stratford Yankees and Bridgeport Troopers senior corps as well as a drum instructor for two of our cross town rivals, the olde St Raphael's Buccaneers and PAL Cadets. "Great Memories": Thanks for posting. Hurricanes won the "Big One" (As well as the Legion and Dream Championships), and did it in front of the "Home Town Crowd" in olde Bridgeport. Elphaba

"Skokie Indians": WAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY "Back in the day " the MidWest had a "Threepeat" Legion National Champ in the form of the old Skokie Indians. They beat the best seniors of the day 1955-57 for the "Orange Flag", and their streak was only stopped by Hawthorne in 1958. They became the "Men of Brass" senior corps in the mid 1960's and did try to mix it up with the early DCA pack, sadly without much success. Elphaba -

"LesDiplomates": 1964 World Senior Open Finals: Dips absoultly GASSED the overflow crowd with that "Revolving Box" drill feature and their great GE program!!!!!!! Great memories!!!!!! Elphaba -
"Dinosaur & Fossils" Can't leave out baritone legends Billy Hightower (Who marched with Ironlips in St Catherine's and the LI Sunrisers), and his fab solo's in "Tin Roof Blues, Black Bottom and Sing Sing Sing", as well as AirForceMan John Simpson, and his "Summertime" solo (Along with Tommy Martin) and the legendary Simpson "Rhapsody in Blue" indie solo which is on the flip side of the Fleetwood Skyliner "Portrait on Brass" record. Soprano legend Tommy Martin also solo's on thst old Fleetwood disc with "You made me love you", and his tripple tounging feature. What is even more legendary is the fact that these guys achieved what they did playing on the 1960's Getzen GD Valve/slide BUGLES, and they required NO AMPLIFICATION!!!!!!!! All of this great legendary talent can be found on the Fleetwood remakes CD's, "Brass by Night" the Skyliner 1962 concert recoriding and the Air Force Disc. Enjoy Elphaba

"Hy Drietzer": The late great and much missed Mr Drietzer was our arranger-instructor "Back in the Day" (65-66) and is on record as stating that he didn't care how many valves were put on the old "G" bugles but that the horn itself should be kept in "G" as that was the identity of drum corps. The man knew a thing or two about drum corps arranging, and the high brass award at DCA Finals is named in his memory. Those "G" hornlines and their soloists needed no 'amplification' or staging. Hawthorne's alumni corps, the Skyliner alumni, Boston Crusaders seniors, Hanover Lancers and others are doing a rather good job of "Projection" without the use of microphones....... Elphaba -
"Bill The "Chief" Kemmerer": Haven't heard or seen that name in quite a while.. I understand the entire family was involved with the Garfield Cadets "Back in the Day". Elphaba

"The Russians are Comming, the Russians are Comming": Russian Christmas Music, 1812 Overture, Russian Easter Music, Doctor Zivago, March of the Boyars, , Russian sailors dance, the theme from "The Hunt for Red October", and Red Army March. No doubt several more "Russian" numbers that have found their way into drum corps programs. Elphaba -

"Techno Terrors": If the activity had stayed with the G BUGLES they wouldn't NEED any of this. I never knew any of the old super soloists (WAY too many mention) needing to be "Amped". Fire away............. Elphaba -
