I was wondering who would win between the 1999-2002 Syracuse Brigadiers & the 2005-current Bucs? What do you think?

Personally I think it would be up to who you like better as they both have\had the "it" factor.

This would probably make a good thread on it's own! As much as the '99 - '02 Brigs raised the bar, the Bucs have raised it once again. So my vote would go to the Bucs. Of course, Brigs and Bucs from the aforementioned periods are two organizations with completely different modus operandi...

For the last three years now, the Bucs have leapt out of the gate, and have managed to stay out in front all the way to DCA. Why??? I am wondering, if the Corps that have been chasing them had an additional month to work on what they perceive as needing to be corrected to improve, would they catch them? I believe that one of them could. But for some reason, the Bucs come flying out of the blocks at the start of the season. Their secret? A simpler, more executable program from the get go, that puts them in this position from the start, just better execution period, better personnel to execute their program, better instructional staff? Comments???

i'd highly disagree on the simpler package.

I agree, Buccs would probably win. Brigs brought the activity to a new level of execution and excellence, but the activity kept going after that. If you compare the years week to week of 99-05, 00-06, 01-07 and 02 with 08, the Buccs are scoring higher than Brigs most of the time. Trying to put them face to face now... hmmm... Would be hard to say in brass, since one of the staff we had then, Gino Cipriani, is now with Buccs, so the same technic is being used for both. I think the 2002 Brigs could still kick everyone's butt musically, but would need a different visual and GE package to compete against today's corps.

I wish the best to Buccs, it's quite a ride they are on. As long as they stop winning at 45 shows in a row, and never score higher than 98.6 (the 2 Brigs achievement I am holding on to) lol

99-02 Brigs would bury them. Period.

The Brigs had essentially semi-pro talent. Those show endings (2000, 2001, 2002) were devastating. Even with the "advances" in visual design, the person-for-person talent in the Brigs guard makes up for that.

The Bucs are a great young corps with a very honorable approach to talent development, and a show design philosophy that is perfectly aligned with today's judging sheets (or vice versa)... but the Pre Salary cap Brigs were a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon.

I'm not saying that any judging system is perfect, but in DCI and DCA alike, how in the h...... can a corps continue to have a better score than the week before? It never goes down. Are they saying that a corps never has a bad night? How is that possible?

There used to be a time when almost any corps could beat any other on any given night. The way the judging is now it just doesn't happen. I'm not saying the Buccaneers don't diserve to be winning now but the results are soooo.... predictable week after week.

Any drum corps fan can probably write down on a piece of paper the exact placement of the corps in the finals. It's just the way it is now. I enjoy all the performances but not the judging. The excitement has gone.

Oh I wasn't talking guard at all here. Brigs' guard has always been very strong. I was just talking about drill and how it related to the music. But that's a personal preference really.

Yeah, maybe because I was in it I don't see it like a "phenomenon". But then again, I joined Brigs and DCA in 1999, coming from junior corps, so I am pretty oblivious to anything DCA prior to that.
