Mike when you post about this, you make it sound like they ALl wanted it and have been begging for it. hell, it's been said in interviews that staffs from those proposing it were against it

When I say they wanted it...that of course is the majority...not 100%. It's been written many times that the bulk of the instructors wanted A&E long before the BOD voted them in. Where did I EVER say 'all' of them?

the wording you use Mike adds a lot more to what you say that what you may mean.

How so? Why would anyone think I meant every single instructor? This is actually a pretty funny assertion from a person who uses words to try and make his own opinion apply to over 100,000 people with NO evidence that it does so.

There are some things I don't understand about amps... amping a pit instrument that was hard to hear before? Yeah, I get that... but I've head of amping the likes of soprano soloists? Huh? Since when do we have to mic brass instruments? The same instruments that have been deafening... more or less... the masses for decades? And now even THEY need mics? What?

They mic the trumpet soloist so that they can be heard over the pit.

You see, the pit covers up the drumline and hornline. So the soloist has to be micced into the pit so they can be clearly heard. I've witnessed this already this year a couple times at one show...

It seems rather necessary now to do this.

Plus, they had an unused channel on the board.

Winner!!

At times, this is about as much logic as one could apply. Haha

Personally, I'm not sure. I started out on woodwind (saxophone), I love woodwinds, but I'm so use to drum corps being only brass in the horn line. I basically learned percussion to do drum corps, but when the woodwinds thing was brought up a few years ago, I always thought to myself "if it's added before I age out (which is this year), then I might march sax". But I guess it'll be one of those things that I'll have to get use to once it's added, if it is added. Because DCI is known as "Marching Music Major League", and music does include woodwinds...
