TOP 10 things IN 2009 we think but dare not say!

Recommended Posts

I enjoyed a lot of shows this year and can think of a lot more things to praise then complain about.

However, the one bad thing was REALLY BAD!!!

1. LUCAS OIL STADIUM. :unhappy::thumbup::worthy: is TERRIBLE!

It is not that we are whining, we are just stating the facts as supported by many other posters on the forums. BD had a TERRIBLY BORING show that hardly anyone understood, whereas CROWN was the FAVORITE!!!!!! Did you miss the part where we were awarded the FAN FAVORITE award from the FAN NETWORK?!?!?! Given the kind of preference that is ALWAYS shown to BD by the judges, it is a little hard for us not to feel that BD was simply "handed" this championship to make up for BD's whining last year. If it weren't for that bias, everyone knows Crown would have been the champion this year!!

But, instead, the infamy of the #13 will live on...i.e. everyone will always remember that BD's 13th victory was for a show that DID NOT DESERVE the championship win, it was simply a "we're sorry" gift from the judges!!! Personally, the fact that Crown's 2009 show will be talked about for years to come as being completely innovative, the crowd favorite to win, plus the fact that it was such a beautiful blend of the best of WGI elements (i.e. body movement, creative guard uniforms and color enchancement of green plumes and drum covers), with our incomparable brass sound will only intensify the feeling that we got robbed the championship is a much better legacy than the way people are going to laugh about BD's 2009 gimme 13th victory for a show where they SAT instead of MARCHED, so I'll take that. :unhappy:

Wow, just wow. I warned the Crown family and fans during the season that they were giving a bad public image to members who worked hard to maintain an outstanding, classy image.

Now the marching members are proving me wrong.

here's my biggest complaint:

Some BD people are overly sensitive that people dont like their show, and gasp, may think it was too easy ( right or wrong, the thought is shared by many)

Some Crown folks are sensitive because they think their show is harder and should have won...thus, in their way take swipes at BD

Some Cadets people feel JJ was out to rob them and feel they didnt get enough credit for the drill demands ( and btw...it's derived achivement folks...you dont get full credit if you dont perform it full out)

the good news is:

almost ALL people are thrilled with SCV's show and Troop being in finals, and a vocal majority are saying stadium issues need corrected ASAP

Show me one FACT that supports your claim... /crickets

Your post(s) are only detracting from the great run that Crown made this year and exposing your own ignorance... try keeping the hyperbole to a minimum.

Visual should be judged on marching well and not rolling around on the ground, striking a pose or pretending your horn is a pick axe.

Agreed totally.

Personally I enjoyed Spirits show. They actually had a rhythm going I could tap my foot to for more than two seconds, even if some of it is from a bass guitar...I'm desperate for music, what can I say, however I can get it. The segmented ADD I get from Devils and too many other corps just ain't music. I would have enjoyed Devils show much more had they just stayed parked in those chairs and played a actual tune or two, lol.

Devils 1930 show included the Great Depression? Is that where the Haunted Mansion music came from? You would think they'd attempt some visuals to 'key' the fact they are referring to the GD,instead of having some drums and horns squeeze a guard member on the 50 and then chase him off with the chairs. How this relates to the GD,god only knows.

As for the stadium,it's beautiful. Food is ridiculously priced for what you get. First night we had three.....three stale pretzels and the souvenir cup was from a NCAA Basketball event. WTH is that? How bout at least a Colts cup? Wouldn't it make sense to have a DCI Championship cup?? Maybe?? Possibly? ANYway, the sound was terrible the higher up you sat. First night we were up and it sounded so muddled it was hard to make any defination out. Last two nights we sat very low and it was much more enjoyable....

Here are thoughts that I have had that i'm sure are improbable and possibly impossible, but wouldn't mind if they occurred.

1) Getting rid of World and Open class and only having one class with about 20-25 total corps. Quality vs Quantity.

2) Decreasing the length of shows by 1 minute.

3) DCI becoming more competitive somehow. How exactly, I'm not sure. Like, I want corps to hate each other, I want them to want to beat the crap out of their competition. And that anger/competitive streak that they have building inside of them can be used during their shows to help them perform the hell out of their shows. (maybe this happens already i'm not sure). I would love for every single member of every corps to take a defeat PERSONAL. But because this is such a subjective activity, it is harder to get that mean streak going as opposed to a sport to where you are in direct competition with someone else and there are no judges.

4) Just like major league sports, its competition but its also entertainment. In DCI, the majority of the fans go to shows to be entertained, not to actually see who is better than the other, at least IMO. Well, since this is already such a subjective activity, I wouldn't mind seeing fans opinions actually count. Fans who go to shows would vote using some kind of device, and they could only vote once. Obviously they will vote for whoever they want to vote for but it will be suggested for them to vote for who they thought was the "best" corps of the night. And the weight of the vote on the overall placements would be like 30% or 40%, and the other 60% or 70% would be the judging.

5) Increasing the age limit to 25.

:unhappy: Really?

Top 10 list #2:

1. Rank and Rate needs to be banned

2. GE Caption needs to be rewritten or given a lower point total

3. Put a time limit on props and require that they are never stationary for more than X time period.

4. REPEAT. Put a decibel limit on pit amping.

5. Cut up your contract with LOS .. the can is a dump

6. Melody should be a GE Subcaption under Design

7. REPEAT. Lower ticket prices or include the DVD set with a SUPERPACK for Finals Week.

8. Bring back first tour / second tour. The corps are traveling too much for less shows.

9. Bring Back PBS ... or Current TV ... or VH1 or something. You got ZERO exposure this year DCI.

10. Allow people to VID shows you aren't selling. You already ban the stuff on Youtube anyway. Why can't we have our own personal collection to enjoy until the DVD's arrive? This heavily contributes to the "Elitist" stigma that DCI has been awarded over the past 15 years. If anything, you should be asking fans to send you a copy so you have more source material for advertising and internet exposure that YOU control. This is the same practice you have used with still images .. why should vid's be any different?

Well if whining is the way to get a championship the following season, Crown is certain to get the gold next year if people like you keep this up. Way to support your corps.
