Galen
OK, so he didn't resign but with all the staff announcements on DCP recently I thought this would be a cute way to say that The Cadets are dropping the running man logo and looking for suggestions for a new logo. fifer
I don't know all the facts but let me say what little I know to help those of you who feel it is important to come into this (or any/all) Cadets thread, jump to conclusions without checking into any of the facts, and bash them for not doing it correctly (in your opinion). I do know that they have been working with a marketing firm on this for a while and are simply trying to get as many ideas as possible by giving the fans an opportunity to submit additional ideas. With this in mind, a short timeframe and tight deadline is a good way to motivate people (especially when most of us wait until the day taxes are due to file even though we have months to work on them). Somehow, in spite of the incompetence some of you seem to imply in your posts, The Cadets team has been able to keep the corps around and thriving for 75 years! So get your thinking caps on folks and submit those ideas.
atlvalet
Nitpicking. This is the sort of direction clients routinely give and actually I think this all describes the Cadets quite well. They are both a very traditional and very innovative organization. They tend to move very rapidly in their shows and have at many times taken chances with programs that are edgy, unlike other corps (in a relative sense) and have powerful impact. That being said, the design challenge is to create something that communicates that unorthodox combo of tradition/innovation in a few seconds.....for $200 in t-shirts...lol Well, in my professional opinion it's not nitpicking. You need be clear and have specific direction for designers to do good work. I think some of those comments are contradictory. IMHO, the only thing that's traditional about the Cadets are the uniforms. But hey, the chances of them getting something great for $200 in T-shirts is somewhere between slim to none. It would have been helpful if this information was in the first post. And I still disagree with the last part. But good luck to the Cadets. MikeN
IMHO, the only thing that's traditional about the Cadets are the uniforms. Exactly, which is why I liked the shako logo. The Cadets, more than any corps in DCI, have a uniform that transcends the activity precisely *because* it's such an old design. Heck, popular culture from The Music Man on down has reinforced the "cadet" band uniform. Referencing the uniform in the logo could very quickly and easily establish the entire background of the unit. I guess that's my long winded way of saying they need the uni in there somewhere, somehow. Mike
Bydloyoho
Eh? The running man logo is one of the most distinctive, original, and appropriate I have ever seen. It's a true emblem of the Cadets as they are today and features an actual member and chance moment in their history - they ARE their members. Changing it seems like change for the sake of change. Shame really, the replacement will most likely not be as good. Would Nike or Apple drop their logos? Hardly.
