Hah - no argument there, but I meant corps uniform proper, not guard.

Mike

Oh. In that case, I'd have to agree with you that we haven't had any major misfires in quite some time, if ever. (I can't think of any. Can anyone else?)

I don't mean to drag this thread into DCI What Not to Wear territory  , but here are a few questionable choices from semi-recent history ...

Glassmen's 94 - One fringed epaulette and a cowboy hat?

Kiwanis Kavaliers' 1999 pillow-padded shoulders?

Spirit's faded jackets (some may disagree with me here)

And of course, Madison's slightly-controversial 2007 jackets...

I can handle white Cadet unis...

What the top corps have figured out is that they really don't wear a "uniform" anymore so much as a "costume". Costumes can be tailored to fit the current program, while still retaining certain traditional elements. The Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Cadets, and Phantom Regiment are the best examples of corps that have really considered costuming of the corps proper in overall design in recent years, with a lot of success.

Regardless of the year, or the uniform...If there was no controversy about the Cadets, Hop would invent one. He's a showman, and understands the value of controversy.

I don't really agree with that. All of our conversations (not many) have been completely accomodating and cordial, but controversial topics such (such as scoring, judging, show management, corps specifics) he can get very heated and to the point.

He doesn't appreciate the controversy, from what I can tell. Seems much more upset by some of the close-mindedness in the activity, than he is happy about it.

I could be wrong, but that's what I've gathered in our 8 or 9 conversations in social settings or in passing.

That'll of course be determined by how many people complain about their initial uniforms.
