Open the roof

Recommended Posts

Kind of "huh" funny how when they moved to Lucas Oil, one of the selling points to soothe everyone mad about the dome was that the roof could be opened. Now, not only does DCI have no intention of ever doing so, everyone seems to argue that it doesn't *need* to be open.

Times, how do they change.

If DCI really wants Finals in Indiana....

The perfect drum corps stadium is not too far away.

Agree 100%. Not only did DCI say in response to the angst about 10 years of the dome back then that the roof "could" be opened, they said it "would" be open.

It is pretty ironic. But to be fair, DCI did not know the roof would end up being a $75 million boondoggle. They weren't terribly happy about it, but then the roof was never a reason for moving to Indy. It was just a selling point.

Oh well. Like I said earlier in this thread, the stadium is really quite pleasant with the roof open, even in warm weather. Drum corps fans may be disappointed, but imagine how many taxpayers in the Indy area feel.

Does anyone know if the Colts generally keep the roof open for their two home pre-season games each season? If they do, then there goes all of the weather-related excuses for keeping the dome closed...

Except that the Colts could play in a driving rainstorm... DCI can't happen in same.

No, they couldn't. $75 million dollar roof . . . with no drainage, and no weatherproofed electronics. The roof has been opened for about 20 Colts home games since 2008. They're not as reluctant to open it as some seem to think, but they'll only do it perfect weather. It would be perfectly plausible for DCI to open the roof for finals, but they won't since even a remote chance of having to close the roof would mean that the corps would play in two very different sound environments.

Heh, I had forgotten about that. Too funny.

(And by funny, I, of course, mean not funny at all...)
