kdaddy
Sound design at Regiment. Also works/worked with MCM. I've heard great things about his abilities as a sound designer. This was obviously underutilized at Regiment (i.e., limited to witch cackles).
84BDsop
Just to add on to staff retention: they also have staff that feel that they are truly appreciated and have bought into the creative system. They're not commanded to produce one person's vision (unlike other places I can think of). That goes all the way back to Jerry Seawright, who set the tone with this one belief -- hire the best people for the job and then let them DO their job.
tesmusic
That goes all the way back to Jerry Seawright, who set the tone with this one belief -- hire the best people for the job and then let them DO their job. I appreciate when people point out individuals like Jerry Seawright, Bill Cook, etc. It's really not a hard method to achieve greatness or success, and the model of hiring the best and letting them have the keys to the Cadillac in their respective roles is truly the greatest method. old skool drmmr
Tony Nunez announced as Crowns pit arranger This is a weird hire to me. From what I understand, the vast majority of his design background has been either writing for battery or doing sound design. Not front ensemble writing. He has done it, but his highest profile gigs have been either battery (Mandarins, Arcadia HS) or sound design (MCM, PR). Perhaps he's actually primarily doing sound design, but the website lists him as the front ensemble arranger, which, since all the electronics are in the front ensemble, I guess is technically true. BRASSO
Brasso, If I have to, I'll type slowly for you: I'm not angry. If I was , you'd know it. I'm tired of you positioning yourself on here as the savior of drum corps, always making accusations of collusion and good old boy networking etc as if you have all the answers and can cure drum corps. if you think you can, get off your butt and prove it. you've had so many holes blown into so many theories on here over the years even Stu reads the rebuttals to your posts and says "####, they got him good there!" You've unsuccessfully attempted to substitute your words to my words above, in an equally unsuceesful attempt to mischaracterize my comments above. That epic fail has apparently made you even angrier despite by request to help youself by dialing back the confrontational anger. Today, you provide no specfics at all as to where you believe I have misstated, or have said things that ( in your view ) are simply untrue, and gave us no examples of what I have said on this thread is out of line, or is untrue (in your view) and why. You simply engaged in a generalized dismissal of my observations, and use repeared profanity in your recent blatherings of unspecific, unidentifiable complaints you have. For the record, a simple unbiased read of the dialogue between us on this thread should have one conclude that I have not engaged in confrontational anger with you, nor challenged you to prove anything, nor have unfairly maligned your own observations on this thread, nor attempted to sabotage your comments into something you never said in the first place. I suggest now that we end this back and forth personal vendetta of yours and that we return the thread to its orginal topic, as this is getting lamer and lamer by the minute from you. MikeD
" The AARP people " at Concord have been friends with the" AARP people"" DCI judging community since before anyone had a computer and keyboard. They've known and personally hob nobbed with each other in traveling circles for half a century in some cases. That helps. What also helps the " AARP people " at Concord is that they have an unfettered, uncompensated feeder system thats unprecedented in any other competitive youth endeavor in the entire world, and which happily feeds itself on its willing competition with their willingness in turn to freely feed that venerable Blue Devils Beast with manpower as well. From the BD position, its the best competitive environment that one could possibly ever dream to have been created. I tip my hat to BD. They win because they are undeniably good, and because they have every duck in a row lined up for them in DCI and its coupled with an ungodly created feeder system that annually takes in their competition's best talent,( keeping them at bay forever), since U2's Bono came out of diapers. BD does not "take" theri competition's best talent. Members quite properly march where they so choose and are able to pass the auditions.
BRASSO
BD does not "take" theri competition's best talent. Members quite properly march where they so choose and are able to pass the auditions. Thats splitting hairs, imo. My use of the word " take " does not negate the fact that BD is well served each season( to their crediit ) by the annual talent pilgrimmage of some of the top talent from other Corps to Concord in an attempt to earn a spot. Yes, I do understand the process of auditions, MikeD. The word " take " from other Corps is not by itself a perjorative word, and my use of it should not be automatically construed as such. I suppose the word " receives " from other Corps might have worked too. But the fact that BD " gets " a significant pool of talent each and every season from their competition is the big picture here, and perhaps is what is being missed. This is a hellava good competition feeder system for BD, and I said as much above. Edited September 11, 2014 by BRASSO

kdaddy
Phantom Regiment does a pretty terrible job of staff announcements: Jeremy Hunt, visual designer Jude Boughton, visual coordinator Rob Ferguson, front ensemble arranger John Leonard, previously mentioned as guard caption head The visual coordinator, visual designer, and front ensemble arranger were three spots that I DIDN'T want to be touched in the offseason...
