mhix01
I heard the opener and ballad at the last camp (my son is a Blue Star tuba) - they sounded wonderful. I'm really looking forward to seeing their show this year. I'll have to wait until Allentown though since that's the closest place to me. Hopefully bad people on youtube will come to my rescue. Cadevilina Crown
The show announcement says: "The Dreamer... A Lover... A nightmare... The demon... The protector... Fulfillment... A journey of artistry, disbelief, romance, pain, and consolation." Hmmmmm...
BlueStainGlass
My guess is that Isolde's final aria (commonly known as the Liebestod) or the duet between Tristan and Isolde in the second act would be the selection by Wagner. Wagner had no idea his works would be performed by drum corps and given his thoughts about how his operas should be performed, he wouldn't like it, but he probably wouldn't like Walkuries on motorcycles either, so we won't be doing anything worse in drum corps than what is done with his works in opera houses. If Blue Stars can convey the beauty and intricacies of "Tristan un Isolde" on the drum corps field, it will be one of the greatest musical moments this summer. It will be a challenge. Remember, opera singers who are capable of singing "Tristan un Isolde" avoid it at all costs, loving it but seeing as Wagner's most demanding work. I was told prelude but doesn't mean it can't have other parts in it.

DrumManTx
Pretty vague announcement. Though I think the idea is great, looking forward to seeing how this is fleshed out. Music is great, especially like this one:

Being a non-music major back in college, I took only a music history(ish) course as a periphery. Could you enlighten me towards his views on this. I know about his writing of the trilogy and the length of his operas. But I always assumed he would love it because he would bring in choirs of brass players for the finales of his operas. Of course I would love to learn what you know.

I don't know how feasible it is for you, but my parents once surprised me in a different state across the country while on tour. And I'll tell you that was far better than any care package I got. So if you have the chance, I'd try and catch the tour premier in Indy.

The Blue Stars aren't at the tour premier in Indy - their first show is The Whitewater Classic in WI. We won't see him until Allentown but we plan on following them through to Indy. I've considered going to their preview show In WI or a free show they do for the people in Forest City where their move ins are. Doubtful that we'll be able to make those though. I must have assumed that since they were at it last year, they would be again. My bad.
