xandandl
Wow. 4 full days without any new post on a Cadets thread. Perhaps a new record or rather Tobias and Tekk are getting their wish for 2017.

Fran Haring
Wow. 4 full days without any new post on a Cadets thread. Perhaps a new record or rather Tobias and Tekk are getting their wish for 2017. Probably still not time to start a "Silent Post for Cadets 2017 Thread" thread.

xandandl
Does anyone have a photo of the Cadets members when they wore the maroon smocks over the uniform when not on the competition field? [in the days of inspection and wool jackets, when cleaning costs were atrocious, the smocks protected the uniform and often the performer. Easier and cheaper to wash the smocks than clean the wool unis. The corps wore the smocks at least into the late '70's.] Now fast forward to 2017 when the Great Suspense (sorry BK) will be seeing what the corps will be wearing in 2017: what colors and what style uniform/outfit. Imagine not knowing until the first note of music when the smocks are dropped and voila... (Actually, North Penn H.S. did that very thing with black capes the year they did the Symphony Fantastique show. And I guess in DCI, The Cavaliers did something similar when they did their take on Tom Cruise's Eyes Wide Shut [Kubrik 1999] and Secret Society '13.) If a member did not have one, that member was not permitted to sit in the stands or eat at the concession stand. Back then with full retreats we stayed in uniform until after the show, don't forget. They were a light maroon fabric that had snaps to close them. My guess is Aunt Nellie and/or her daughter made them up for us as new ones were needed.
xandandl
Thanks Mike. The photo also shows that Marine-style buzz cuts have not always been the semi-official haircut for Cadets members. But of course, back in those days there were no Swamp-tours or trips with hellacious Texas heat for almost two weeks.. The pictured haircuts were typical of the times but still far shorter than drillman Bobby Hoffman's "afro."
