Is this how the corps has approached these type of changes in previous years?

They did when I marched. I am not sure how they did it in recent years.

Crown.. 2015. " Inferno ". Won Semi's. just missed at Finals. That closer change they put in in AUGUST was pure genius, imo. It changed the entire pessimistic tone to one of redemption, salvation.Crown were behind the Cadets most of that season..  by more than a couple of points, and well into early August too. But the Crown staff put in a closer right before Championships that catapulted them over the Cadets. Do you recall this ?

Of course I remember it. I remember laughing so much at people saying the ending has to change and giving ideas like they should make a crown set when the sheet is over them...when those couple of us that knew staff members and someone on the design team knew that had already been planned before spring training. Maybe knowing what the new ending would be deadened it a bit for me whereas in 08 I had no idea what was coming with Phantom.

Saying that, while Crowns ending was great, to me it still wasn't anything like Phantoms. The rise Phantom got in GE was crazy. They were battling it out with the Cadets for 5th in San Antonio and ended up beating them by almost two points in GE come finals while being only 0.05 out of first. Crown didn't have such a rise (but the Cadets sure had a fall).

Crown 2015 was very high on my list as my fav Crown show. It also demonstrated the roads a corps sometimes follows from June to August. They had some early victories and defeats but knew the prize was in August. Great changes, a show with legs that just went from a bad HS production early on to a haunting, beautiful show. I do laugh when others have figured out who the top 2-3 are in June/early July. I think high performance levels are sometimes confused with great design. Eventually, when the top tier are all performing at very high levels come late season, the designs start to shine through. We only get it for a moment. Kind of like the sunrise. The trick is to be that corps in August.

Hope Jersey Surf can get a better prop covering than something that looks like a black trash bag.  Don't really have any idea what the train stuff at the beginning is.   Bass guitar is WAY overpowering, like louder than the whole hornline overpowering.

On the positive side, Fun show musically they could do a lot with that I enjoy WAY more than their previous 3 or so offerings.   Color guard had some great moments and there is potential for some very nice fill corps stuff.   Just super dirty right now.

Parts of the prop have yet to arrive and will be covered soon.  They also have some uniform changes coming.  The idea of the show is a person first arriving in a dismal city and - through music - making it their own, bringing new life and a new perspective to the city.  The "train stuff" represents the shuffle of people getting on and off a subway car.  I think it will make more sense when it's complete.

That can't be the real ending.

No it's not.  It's actually only about halfway through the closer.

It is pretty evident the show is not yet finished, but this unfinished show has potential and it is a show that can grow.  Also think this is show that will engage the marching members as improvements are made and the season progresses. I assumed the props were also a work in progress. The edges are colorful so you can sense something will be added.

The edges are colorful because that is the overlap from the back side (the colorful side) of the prop.  Show represents dismal to colorful so you can kind of see where they are going with it.

I personally know a marching member - my son - and he is definitely engaged and is extremely motivated to see and execute the final product.

Crown passed up Cadets on 7/24/2015 and never looked back. But the point I'm sure you are making is that the changes they put in really turned the show into a championship caliber show. It was amazing. Cadets were so good that year too.

This is EXACTLY it!!!! Has there ever been anything featured so much in a drum corps show? (Yowsa, Yowsa, Yowsa)

The Cadets 2008 show "The Pursuit of Happiness" featured a really bad Lifetime Movie of the week right in the middle of field.  Almost everyone hated it.  Were it not for the fact that they had an exceptional drill they probably would have placed lower.  The soap opera in the middle of field would stop occasionally and let the corps do what they best which is excite the crowd.  But as soon as you started to enjoy the show any joy you felt was destroyed by the return of that Lifetime movie of the 50 yard line.  Crown's overuse of the singer is bad, but having survived Cadets 2008 I'll probably learn to accept a little too much singing.

Not to mention, they completely rewrote that Lifetime movie script half-way through the season into a completely different story.
