StuStu
When did DCI first award gold/silver/bronze?
DFA1970
I’m guessing early 2010 era. Of course they followed what WGI had and has been doing which I do like. It’s a big accomplishment to be in top 3 or even top 5. And just making finals is big.
jwillis35
Yeah, somewhere in the 2010s sounds right. I'm not sure. I like the idea of Olympic style medals for the top 3 placements.
tedrick
I'm generally fairly curmudgeonly but the top 5/6 has really gotten so competitively close that I don't mind the idea of medalling - there was a time when there was a fairly noticelable drop off between 1 and 3 - I think the quality of shows has improved to the point where the differences between 1 - 5 is razor thin --
Minimaster
They did when I marched in 05-06.

mfrontz
2000 was the first time we heard 'receiving the bronze medal' and then receiving the gold medals.'

Lol I mean historically, there was a top 5 because that was the cutoff for the live telecast. Then there was top 6 for the top half of the top 12; also because after 6th the scoring dropped off a bit more. Jim has no patches or medals for ‘73 and ‘74. I have mine for ‘76 and ‘78.
