Bonfiglio/27th dispute

Recommended Posts

some here knew over the years there were competing organizations tied to 27th Lancers...well it ended up in court.

apparently the side led by Denise Bonfiglio lost in court. the charges are not a good look for someone in charge of a different non profit. there were several social media posts sent to me, which i won't share, from both sides praising and bashing the judges decision.

anyone on here with ties to either group that could shed more light?

"'The 27th Lancers' were dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of their dissolution was signed by the state clerk and by DCI executives. The 27th Lancers were as dead as a door-nail."

It's sad and silly to see squabbling among siblings as to who controls the legacy of a drum corps that has been dead since Ronald Reagan was President, and all that happened is that lots of money was spent on attorneys that could have been put toward scholarships instead.

Read the link and sounds like lot of other family squabbling over control and money. And stopping there…: 👎

I read the court doc. It's two siblings against a third sibling and another party, all four of them trying to use the dead meat of a dead drum corps for less than convincing charitable purposes.

We read alike…. that’s what I got too. Seems tipping point was who is allowed to sell ($ell) merchandise.

Swell.

Merry Christmas.

An observation (which ties to the props injury liability discussion on the PR thread) - note that both sides were represented by counsel.  And no matter what the outcome, the lawyers on both the winning & losing sides will send a bill.  If issues like injury liability, sexual abuse accusations, ownership rights to a name (as in this case), or any other potentially litigious issues arise, the lawyers will be paid.  Lawyers are expensive.  Insurance may cover part of the bill in some instances, but there are pitfalls there as well.  Do Corps have a secret pot of $$ to pay attorney fees?  Even an ultimate win in court could bankrupt a Corps (or DCI for that matter).

Bingo… had a distant relative got sucked into a sting operation with 8 others in his profession. State was after 2 people but grabbing a bunch looked better. The 2 biggies kept appealing and all 9 (and their lawyers) had to show up for every court date. Finally the relative copped a plea deal of plead guilty and get probation only. No idea if he was guilty but he was going broke. So it was plead guilty or lose the house to lawyer bills.
