I’m of the opinion that while these marchers are on the younger side, they are all adults paying an exorbitant amount of money to participate in a fully voluntary activity. If they take objection to a costume they have to wear, whether it be due to how tight it is against their body, or how much of their body it shows, they should simply choose to not participate. I understand the need for inclusion, but at the same time the uniforms that one wears while performing can really positively alter the psyche of the performer and get them more into character. If the majority are fine with or even happy with the costume they have to wear, why should they be subjected to the whims of the select few people who are not comfortable with it?

I do agree that generally, revealing costumes are not necessary, but if it helps people get into character, then why not?

I performed in one such costume, so my perspective is especially nuanced. The cat calls from the Cavies and others still ring in my ears. I remember strangers commenting on my ### when they didn't know I was in the room during the Tournament of Champions. It doesn't matter that SC didn't know I was trauma survivor at the time... there was no justifiable need to put me in that position. I would rather have been remembered for my work than how I looked in a costume. In that case, the costume got in the way.

My only pushback would be to say that minors, some young people, and trauma survivors in drum corps are easily manipulated by group think and consent is easily warped. But again, it shouldn't even come down to whether they need the agency to speak up or leave in the face of a revealing costume. I'm saying that if designers can make props safe... they can also think up costumes that don't leave their guards open to harassment.

In my case, the costumes weren't even historically or culturally accurate. They were appropriated mishmashes that looked good on the field and left us vulnerable to bullying and harassment. I'm glad others liked them, but there's more to the story.

With that, I acknowledge that I'm way off topic and will call it there. Apologies to the folks here for Alamodome. I'll do better.

OK!  I officially withdraw any “meh” from the early season delivery of this show idea!

They’re making this work as a really interesting way to do a “50 year anniversary” tribute.

Lots of cleverly things going on here and I’m liking it.

Just for how it is very clearly communicated as well, I’d say that warrants a bit of a GE boost😂

Maybe you mentioned this, but which corps and show were you in when this happened?

I ask because quite honestly some of the guard costumes I’ve seen in the past few years, to me, border on…porn? Maybe that’s too strong, but teenage girls should not be forced to wear skin tight shorts that show parts of their behind.

Is it safe to assume there are several members filling holes as of very recent? Looks like there are a few people out there struggling to remember drill and direction changes, which is kind of jarring for late July.

This might be the case.  They opened the season with a lot of holes.  They might have some late recruits they’re working into the show.

PC is in real rebuild territory this year as they’re one of the corps that took a real hit to their momentum with the covid break.

I’m ok with them being a ‘trainer’ corps for new talent as they rebuild.  They’re making this a fun show and a good vehicle for getting kids into the activity.  Hopefully it pays off with some kids saying “Heck yeah, they gave me a chance and it was fun. I’m coming back!”   That’ll get PC back on track to charge to being a finalist again.
