Marching experience of DCP members

Recommended Posts

Marching band: 5 years

DCI: 0

I was offered a contract my age out year - 1992 Velvet Knights.  I didn't march but have no regrets.  I have the pleasure of watching my son who is in his 4th year of drum corps and at PC with 3 more years of eligibility.  He earned a bronze medal in open class and is an I&E champion on Euphonium.

  • I marched 5 years of DCI.
  • Taught Star of Indiana and Phantom Regiment
  • Judged DCI from 1988 to 2003 (left to teach Regiment)
  • Became a part of the full time Directors at Regiment, Blue Stars (08), and then Carolina Crown.
  • Judged for BOA, DCI, DCA, WGI and assign judges to invitationals and state contests all over the country.
  • Board member of two drum corps over the years.

Nice resume'. Thank you for all you've done.

4 years HS (percussion).

Our band was highly competitive nationally (had a four year run at MBA Grand Nationals finishing 2nd, 1st*, 3rd, 4th). We took High Percussion three straight years at Nationals, but part of that meant we (drum line) were not allowed to march DCI while in high school (although some brass players did).

Fun fact - Tom Blair was our snare tech my freshman and sophomore year!

After competitive HS, I had no interest in marching in college (Mich State) for a 'movie themes of the week half-time show' type of band.
