Nice job tonight, Cadets. They sure are cleaning up yet with a tremendous amount of room to continue to grow.

I’ve said enough about uniforms and props, but something has to be done about the two 40ish second percussion transitions into the ballads. The transition into the first ballad there is nothing compelling musically and especially visually happening: why are we watching the battery slooooowly move from one side of the field to the other? And into the second ballad, while the visual is greatly improved, it’s still simply too long and musical dead space. Keep working on defining the Atlas character so we can follow the narrative start to finish, edit these transitions, and we’ll see GE improve for sure.

The"ONE WHO KNOWS" is on point...The show just needs cleaning and possibly some transitional material...Though they are not as prop heavy as the Mandarins,they have just enough drum corps to overcome that obstacle imo...keep improving two points a show; should make San Antonio very interesting...peace

I agree.  They haven't faced Mandarins head to head yet, but as of last night, Cadets scored higher in Brass, Percussion and Guard.  They were 2 points behind Mandarins for a few weeks and have cut that down to 1 point as of late.  San Antonio will be interesting for sure.  Keep Rising, Cadets.....

Thanks again to the( daring) You Tube poster who posted the Cadets Broken Arrow show...sound was inconsistent but any viewing of this show and the subtle changes is so encouraging...Again, keep pushing Cadets...We got your back!

Nice job last night, Cadets! Great music book between brass and perc. Lots of cleaning to do. 

Overall here is how I break down the show (as I see it):

1. The Arrival - Percussion and pit with etheral voices building wonder as the athletes enter for the battle between the Titans and the Olympians

2. Let The Games Begin - first big brass hit

3. Olympic Ordinals - basic competition begins with brass doing the fast double tonguing and some fast drill

4. Difficult Times - ballad 1, Atlas realizing the difficulties of trying to defeat the Olympians, personal reflection

5. The Competition Continues - percusson feature with all kinds of fast and difficult body moves by the brass and guard

6. Experiencing Defeat - Atlas not always winning and ultimately forced to carry the weight of the world over his head (as was his punishment). Big guard feature with Atlas in pain as they try to construct the globe over his head.

7. Be Strong - Even in defeat Atlas proves to be resilient and strong, this is ballad 2

8. Endurance and Fortitude - The loss aside Atlas becomes the picture of strength, endurance, fortitude, and mental toughness. His attitude inspires people world-wide to push and never give up. Classic Cadets drill with speed in the feet and music. 

 

Of these sections 1 - 5 are pretty good. Just need a lot of cleaning. Sections 6 and 7 need major work. Section 8 should be spectacular come Finals.

So, since people keep bringing up uniforms, I would like to say something that I have never admitted publicly.  First, as some of you know,  I have been a loyal Boston supporter since I joined BAC in late 1979.  NOBODY  on earth has more love for the unquestionable mystique of the cadet style uniform, whether it is the one I wore or the one that former Cadets wore. 

Imagine my shock then, as I stood in the uniform room in Vermont the day we unboxed the 2018 SOS uniforms!  I remember seeing a box of lime green material and someone telling me "those are the headbands".   I was actually speechless, but I said nothing in front of the kids, most of whom seemed excited about the look.

I went back to my RV that night literally with knots in my stomach.   But then I gave it some thought...actually hours if thought.  I decided that  I love my drum corps so much, and the members, fellow alums and staff as well, that I would support them no matter what.  An alum and BAC senior corps leader who marched in the EARLY 60s said to me that weekend "I wouldn't have gone that way,  but do you realize how lucky we are just to have the corps still around to cheer for?"

He was right.  And I never forgot his words.  Not trying to lecture anyone here in Cadetland....but we are so fortunate to have our 80+ year old corps still out there in an era where Dead Corps International might very well have claimed the impregnable SCV. Support your corps and cheer for your kids.... as is the case with Boston, it belongs to them now.
