  1. Today
  2. On top of that, I’d surmise most corps have a chunk of show on the field before move-ins. At least we did back in the mid-00s. If so, that’s even less to learn per day. Genuinely curious if corps these days approach putting the show together remotely similar to the past, as I know camp logistics, virtual rehearsals, and guard/percussion impacts due to the increasing prevalence of WGI over the past 20 years have changed what the offseason looks like dramatically.
  3. See my above post about not done and what it really means
  4. No. BD wins because they have the skeleton done and add layers and tweaks while they clean. Everyone else keeps putting in whole new ending ms that get performed maybe for two weeks, losing cleaning time while teaching all new material
  5. Ok so 6 for crown ( I just counted weeks til show 1 from today) and so 5 for others. Shows begin later now but ST starts the same time. So what’s those 5 weeks cost while generating zero income? Shows today have different demands yes than 30 years ago, but are those demands tough enough for all that extra time? no
  6. When I say complete I’m not referring to just done. I’m talking about the now ending then wasting days/weeks teaching the final ending as opposed to cleaning everything
  7. Not always. In Hershey’s case when the handshake deal was consummated Destinys child hasn’t announced anything. But they reached out to Hershey looking at tour routing and Hershey knew they’d make a lot more money that way.
  8. The new ceo gave a rosy summation on Tim Hintons podcast while not giving any specifics
  9. First two weeks of the season, "West Coast Inflation" will lead all excuses out the gate. Then after Broken Arrow when/if BD wins the first matchup of all the big boys, trolls will roll out the "Pays off the judges" and "Writes to the sheets" excuses. "Lazy Judges and "Slotting" threads will make an appearance between Broken Arrow and San Antonio............ After San Antonio, we will see the "Cannibalizes the talent pool from other corps" threads pop up with people whining about making kids sit out a year if they want to move up to another corps which is hilarious and a load of crap. While not a choice on the bingo sheet, sometime after Atlanta, someone will say "Corps (Insert Name) will pass BD by Allentown and not look back" which will earn them a lot of likes on this forum, then we will watch that person disappear by finals so they can avoid watching their comment age like spoiled milk in an Iraqi Desert in the middle of July. And by finals night, the haters will be writing their wish list for the following year, which is commenting that BD finishes 4th in the annual predictions thread for 2025, all the while hoping no one has receipts from all the previous years they were wrong.
  10. Equipment trucks began arriving today. I think percussion begins arriving Wednesday and everyone else comes in Friday. LFG. BAC
  11. Such a great guy. I had the good fortune to teach with him years ago before he headed to BD. Had a chance to work with TJ for a short time as well, before she headed to BD. Both great people joined up with other great folks.
  12. Yeah I didn't read the whole thread before I posted. Sorry about that cats. I'm getting to dependant on skimming content. This work year is brutal.
  13. Straight facts. Murphy probably has a second house just to fit all his visual caption awards he has accumulated with BD. He is the real deal.
  14. Yesterday
  15. No corps has a first show in the third week of June any more. The issue is having a complete show ready by the first show in the first week of July now.
  16. 22 seconds a day seems reasonable if you’re doing company fronts, circle drills and playing Battle Hymn of the Republic. I usually only see corps live in CA around the third week of June. It doesn’t upset me when a corps doesn’t have their full show ready as I see how much harder shows are in 2024. Also, are you considering the possibility changes are made while learning a show? Maybe what was originally intended didn’t quite translate and provide the desired effect and entire changes are made early, thus pushing back endings or a certain part? That happened to us almost every year.
  17. Well to be fair to the haters, we did ask them to stop regurgitating the same excuses year after year, so I guess we can't be too mad at them for rolling out the media team excuse lol.
  18. Ok. I'm probably gonna trigger some people but I just had to make this to play along at home this season...
  19. They were small but good when I saw them back then. Their "indoor" Colorguard competed in the Southern California circuit and was VERY good.
  20. Cal State Los Angeles also had a Drum Corps show that was very well attended back then. If I am not mistaken, those shows were during the same weekend.
  21. Brother I give you props lol. You are a better man than me lol. But seriously I am glad you enjoyed your time there.
  22. Slotting is now favoring the Blue Devils because of their show announcement video? That's a new one.
  23. I loved Djibouti Camp Le-mon-Yay ! They had a great pizza place right outside of the French camp. They had a Tuna Black Olive and Onion pizza that was amazing. It was a literal hole in the wall and no indoor tables but even in 120 degree heat that pizza was great. Then they had the French pastry shops where we had to stop every day on our way to do out thing. We beat the French Foreign legion in the TinCat fitness challenge which surprised them and earned us some good respect. I set up a band program in the local arts school and the people I recruited to help formed a Jazz band "the Horns of Africa" I got to plan and execute multi national training exercise, train with Legion De'tanger and go out with the Fench marines. I got to go to Seychelles during William and Kate's honeymoon. Got to hang out with IOG. I got to go to great beaches in Somalia that I had all to myself. I took the last ride on the old narrow gauge railroad before the Chinese built their new train to Ethiopia. They also had lots of Ethiopian Coffee houses that were good. Also got to sing with Mercy Me. I did 3 tours in Iraq, none were as fun as Djibouti. In 18 months in Djibouti no one ever shot at me, never had to write up a soldier for a Purple Heart. Never had to wear body armor in Africa. Though I did come home with mysterious tropical diseases Djibouti was a great time.
