  1. Hey Lee, Maybe you should try to get others involved without creating unnecessary controversy around the subject that you are trying to talk through. Why mention the Reading Buccaneers at all? Your posts look just like a marketing trick to get people to read your blog, which just swirls around the negativity. If you are truly the Buccaner that you say you are, maybe you should find another way to draw attention to the issues that concern you specifically, instead of creating unnecessary attention to the Buccaneers, in a somewhat negative light. Are there issues? Yes. Are you helping to fix any of them? No. You are using catchy subject lines to draw attention to your lack of relevance in DCA today.

  4. Such a bummer. As a musician, public school teacher, etc. I 100% get the problems and issues with copyright laws; I support every artist exercising their rights to make as much money as they can off of their artwork, and I'm extremely thankful for all of their art they have 'gifted' us. As a fan & consumer of art, it is of course disappointing that I can't pay what I'm already aware is an over-priced amount for DCI DVDs because of copyright hangups. It's upsetting that this is likely not artists' call, but rather lawyers from a multi-national corporation who owns the copyright. I will NEVER argue with copyright & a composer's rights to make money off of their art, but as a DCI fan I can say without a doubt this copyright hangup (that caused DCI to not have a FN archive of current season or past seasons) has made me a less-engaged drum corps fan: the activity is kind of "out of sight/out of mind," and for the first year in over a decade DCI has received zero dollars from me - not out of nutty vindictiveness, but because in place of drum corps subscriptions or whatnot I found other ways to occupy my time and money. I'm confident that had FN been same as previous years with the archives and with the 'DVR' function I would've paid again like I always have. One thing does seem clear: if you're a fan of the activity and there are DVDs of Blu-rays currently for sale you really want but don't own yet, it seems prudent to act now before things get crazier and those go away forever

  7. But at the same time, people crave the openness that GH has displayed for the past few years. Some people claim they appreciate his level of openness; that is until they see or read something they wish they hadn't. Can't really have it both ways. Gotta accept the good as well as the bad.

  8. Fingers crossed they don't announce their show yet....

  9. and Perc...since for some reason the quote feature isn't working for me.....the goal for Cadets2 was to train kids for Cadets. Well, hiring the person in charge of C2's guard seems like a great step

  10. Go to youtube. There's some great stuff, including the Wayne Downey video on orchestrating for the brass.

  12. Indeed I have. I like Axe. You just have to know how to reach his orbit and radio telescope frequency.

  13. I always thought the music of Pippin would make great corps material,..............Corner of the Sky, along with Magic to Do and Simple Joys are all great songs.

  14. YES>Yet for some reason we love to pick things apart to the smallest fraction of a tenth to separate every little thing but also forget that however it gets picked apart one thing doesnt work without the other at the highest level

  15. No question. However... The interesting thing is that this year, the difference between first and second and also between third and fourth at finals this year was....wait for it....performance.

  16. I have to second Jeff's assessment of Kristy's passion for her program and her kids, as it was recently on full display at a local TOB show. I would actually pay good money to see a few posters in this thread put in a room with Ms. Templin where they could convey their disdain for her relationship with George and how it will negatively impact the corps directly to her in person.

  17. CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP. Frankly I couldn't care less who GH is dating. All I care about is The Cadets' success from here on in. I think we should just leave the past in the past and not nitpick with whomever GH dates. That's his personal life and he can date whomever he choses. There are plenty of people in the drum corps community who have dated. Some of those relationships have flourished, others haven't. That's life.

  18. I think the problem is some of your ideas were perceived to be heading in that direction. I didn't think so, but you know how people are

  19. I can guarantee you Kristy is a big girl...if there would be trouble in paradise, she wouldn't let the kids see it. Hell when her mom died and her kids tried to comfort her, she was the mother hen taking care of them. relationships on tour can be bad be it staff or members if stuff goes wrong. But I can promise you this....if there's one person involved with Cadets next year that isn't afraid to speak their mind or tell George's he's full of ####....it's Kristy Templin. I think too many people are making a mountain out of a molehill. Plus even if she is on tour full time, we know he won't be as he heads back to Allentown for other YEA business or Phillies games.

  20. I am going to go there. Do I have any idea how Kristy will work out for the Cadets? No, but having known her our entire lives I hope she does well. I have had the pleasure of knowing her and the family since before birth. I have also had the honor of teaching with Kristy for several years at Mechanicsburg, and if she's still there when my daughter reaches guard age, I'd have no issue letting her work with my daughter. I have seen what she inherited with 9 girls in 98, and over time built that program into a world class unit. For any warts or flaws she may have to some, she's ###### good, passionate, and cares for her kids. When a sad incident with a band students death befell the program a few years ago, and one of her kids was involved with that student, Kristy was right there the whole way...not just rehearsal, but god love her, at the scene and driving to the band directors house at midnight to tell him since he wasn't answering his phone. I saw her work with Cabs, which helped get the corps closer to gold than they had been for years. I saw her work with C2 last summer which took a guard that was getting good and made it great. Is Scholastic World or DCA the same as DCI? No, but she has good people around her, several I know. here's what I detest, and it puts me in an uncomfortable position.....as I';ve never been one of George's biggest fans. Kristy is getting #### on by armchair critics because she is dating George. While I have no insight to that except to say they seem happy together.....who ####### cares? if she wasn't good, he wouldn't have brought her on board. the Cadets are too precious to George to just hire someone because they're dating. people that have little if any knowledge of Kristy's work are out here trashing her rep because of her love life....guilt by association. and man, if she pulls another rabbit out of her hat, I can't wait to come in here in August and call out all the naysayers and demand they eat ####### crow. Regardless of who she is dating, when Kristy Templin wants something, she usually get it. if I started a corps tomorrow, I'd be calling her too.

  21. Pretty amusing that there is so much hand-wringing over a corps that has been out of the top five just once in the past 34 seasons, during which time they won ten championships.

  22. Cadets 1998 - the colorguard at the end of the slow movement Cadets 2000 - the drum break, the playing-of-each-others'-trumpets, and the entire last minute of the show Vanguard's Y pull in both parts of the 1999 show Cavs 2002 - the "fight club" scene Crown winning their first title and watching the tears running down those kids' faces. I forgot to add the "raindrop" set from the Cadets 2005. Not just the visual set, but the music at that part, too. Brilliant. And brilliant how they morph into the umbrella. I don't hear much talk about Cadets 2005, but IMO there hasn't been a better show written or performed since.

  23. No, actually 4 of last years staff is returning, including his daughter, in hopes of keeping vets I'm sure (who are probably not happy about Bruno and the other staff being let go). Plus it seems like several people that have been with Kristy Templin for years. I certainly hope that they have the expertise for this level. This isn't high school. Reading the bios, I'm not so sure.

  24. After the annual DCI meeting, Hop posted on Facebook something like, "The licensing issues are real and dramatic." No details provided. I really hope this gets sorted out soo because this past year was too good not to be able to enjoy in the future.

  25. I would be interested in hearing those, as the creation of works like these are fun to learn about, although I'm surprised because in the education I received on it, it was quite different than what you're saying. But you heard from the source, so I would take that more than my professors.

  26. In the annual (some times bi-annual) thread on what corps should play, I'm still holding out hope that some corps (Boston/Madison wheel house in my opinion) to play "Scarlet Pimpernel" complete with an 18th century war ship during the playing of "Into The Fire." It is a shade of red!

  28. It always pisses me off when no one cheers after the bari thing facing backfield but they freak out when the sop solo does his stuff. That bari solo is insane.

  29. the soprano and bari duet in the ballad....Oh...it just melts me.....I can listen to that ballad and that show over and over again.... Didn't the weather affect other corps' guards the way BD's guard was affected?

  31. I wish BD (or any corps really) would feature a baritone soloist like they had that year. Good God that guy was a beast. But doesn't this belong in the Historical forum?
