  1. I had to get up the next morning. The congregation was expecting my sermon on temperance.

  2. Ever stop to think if more people had used precautions such as masks and distancing we might be back to work or school..... Instead it’s arguments about “my rights” from people and #### little or nothing about protecting others

  4. At first I laughed, but then thought about what causes someone to get that drunk and felt sorry for him. I can't imagine what his head would feel like the following morning when he wakes up, if he wakes up.

  5. You can say it in whatever manner you feel applies. "When cases stop rising." "When there is a vaccine." "When there are several vaccines." "When vaccines are mandatory for corps members." "When treatments reduce the case fatality rate below (whatever rate you choose)." "When cases drop below (whatever rate you choose)." "When deaths drop below (whatever rate you choose)." "When (whatever health/government agency you choose) says interstate travel may commence without quarantine." "When (whatever health/government agency you choose) says sports may commence without restrictions." "When (whatever health/government agency you choose) says audiences may assemble without social distancing." Pick one. Or make your own description of when we will reach "safe" conditions.

  8. I forgot to tell the story I referenced earlier about my own direct contribution to the BD show design. It was my first day in the area. I moved up in January, and Mike Moxley picked me up at the airport and put me up at his place that night. That evening was the first staff meeting to talk drill -- at Mike's place. I was told i could sit in and watch, but not to get involved (understandable, since i was SUCH a rookie). So they're going over the opener, Bacchinalia, and discussing the first halt in the show (right before what ended up being my camera pass). Remember that a Bacchinalia was depicted as a Roman orgy at the time. The drill was originally expanding into that halt, but Mike also had said that everyone was coming to the orgy. Mike sees me looking at the drill chart with an intense look and asks "Are you bursting with creativity?" "Well, yeah, Mike....if everyone's coming to the orgy, shouldn't the form be coming together?" And THAT is how the first halt came about, with the forms coming together. My one direct influence onto the drill! Again....the staff of a 5-time world champ corps listened to the idea of a rank amateur who hadn't even learned how to march a slide yet...took it seriously...and incorporated it into the show. That gives you a lot of confidence in the staff.

  9. that there is a vaccine, it's been widely distributed, and the spread is limited to mouth breathing anti vaxxers who care less for others than themselves.

  10. Friend in the military told me it stays detectable for months. I am reading otherwise but most detectable in the hair for the longest time.

  12. On man.... father in law lied about that to the anesthesiologist.... two days after back surgery went into a 4 month coma. Problem was he had himself fooled. He would drink vodka from a glass and when the glass got halfway he would top it off (for next couple of hours). But he convinced himself that was “one drink”. “You watch me I only have one drink a night”. “Dude you keep topping it off” (blank look) “yeah one drink”. People can convince themselves of anything so they don’t have to face the fact they bleeped up....

  15. My guess would be that people diagnosed with Covid may not be totally forthcoming when asked about mask wearing. Doctors will tell you most patients claim to exercise and dentists will tell you people always claim to floss. Remember too, they do not claim masks are 100% effective, the claim is that wearing a mask is more effective than not wearing a mask.

  16. The news story I provided links to your article link and adds: That conclusion appeared to be based on an errant reading of a CDC study published in the Sept. 11 issue of its Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a compendium of the latest research. The study in question reviewed data from 154 people who had tested positive for the coronavirus and had been treated at 11 medical centers around the country." Also in the news article I posted is the following: "The CDC further speculated that while mask wearing has led to “sufficient protection” within subjects’ social networks, those subjects likely contracted the coronavirus in a bar or restaurant, where people take off masks to eat and drink."

  17. and for those who want things to get back....why not do anything and everything to help that happen, even the slightest bit. Clearly all you have to do is turn on the TV lately to see the opposite

  18. Exactly the answer I give. But noticed when I say it’s for other people’s benefit I get a blank look. It’s like concern for others is a foreign concept.

  19. I don't care what the white house has said or what the cdc has said. That info is CDC's own data. Not something I am making up. Sorry if they don't want people to read it then take it down off the website.

  20. There are states without mask mandates correct? I don't spend much time worried about people who don't wear one. But its pretty clear that the infections don't equal hospitalizations and deaths. That is really good news. But I don't see much reporting on it. We do get to see the pro mask folks assault the folks who don't wear one.

  21. No one says Science is perfect. Not one source is a good thing with anything. Scientist have not had long enough to come to any real solid conclusions. Things are changing but to claim one source of info is the end all be all is exactly what I am point to when I say - "it is what it is until it changes" Hey guess now is as good as a time as any to remind all that Masks are not mandated and people have a right not to wear one if they want. Run get the duct tape to keep you brain matter from exploding. But if you really believe there should be a mask mandate then why not a back to work and school mandate?

  22. Yeah heaven forbid they learn something new and actually use that new knowledge. Have seen it and caught hell for it in my IT job. “That’s not what you told me before”. “Yeah we found out this #### doesn’t work as advertised “.

  23. How can I or you at this point say when. Clearly there is no definitive answer to that especially with numbers rising again. Wouldnt it be nice if we could answer that question...or anyone for that matter

  26. Opps ! (Red face) Corrected it . I'm not an "anti vaxer",but I'm also not going to rush out and get the covid vaccine either. Last week I was at a meeting on the best way to deal with positive tests in a local school system. One of the attendees was a doctor, another a pharmacist. We started talking about a Covid vaccine. They expressed the same concerns I have posted about. Namely, that we won't know for a while potential side effects. They can take a couple of years to show up. Some times the side effects can be worse then the disease.

  27. A couple of weeks ago my wife needed to get a Covid test for a medical procedure. Problem was, they moved the procedure up. She needed the test results in 24 hours. She thought about getting a rapid test. But she was told that, right now ,they are only about 65% accurate, with a lot of false positives. That's what's happened with a number of NFL players who tested positive with the rapid test, false positives. Given the impact a positive test would have on a corps, until the rapid tests get more reliable, they really aren't a great option. Fortunately, in her case, the hospital where she works was able to get her a "slot" at a local lab for a standard Covid test.

  29. Just found this old, but vintage clip that someone put together of Garfield's Brass line during the 1984 and 1985 season. The recording quality isn't bad for that time and most clips sound like they were rehearsals at show sites or just a private rehearsal facility. It's a combination of music from 84/85 and also a few warm-ups. Nice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTl-JbonDNM

  31. I don't think corps location matters anymore. In some cases, that's simply where their office/operations reside. You can slap any home location you want on a corps, but if a corps holds all their camps, move-ins, etc in another state, let's call it what it is. If I remember correctly, aren't the Blue Stars really basing most of their activity in Indiana, even though they're technically from Wisconsin? The same can be said about a corps like Boston, which made the move down to Florida in the late 90s while their offices remained in Boston. I'd be willing to bet there are very few New Englanders in that corps, though I do admit they do a fantastic job to stick to their Boston roots with performances/outreach in the community.

  32. The attached video isn't that great, but it gives a better glimpse of what the horn line was doing in the drum solo after the changes. The tempo in the intro to Tenderland was slowed down a bit from early season.
