  1. I get frustrated at the frenetic front ensemble arrangements that cover up quiet, delicate playing in the brass. I’ve always noticed it, but, knowing this show as most of us do, it really stands out now with the amplification. Other than than problems like intonation and not having strong chops, which is to be expected, I was very pleased, and so excited to hear them after such a long silence. Phantom is such a part of my family, it has been weird and depressing not having them around.

  3. Holy cow did they push the tempo in the closer. Yikes. Overall, I love it! The brass book is very faithful to the original - I hope they embellish a little bit as they get ready to tour. New drum book is fine, though I wish they'd kept the one bar of rim shots right before the big reprise. I'm a huge fan for the 2003 show, and this made my day brighter. Mike

  4. To all… first, Happy 4th of July to all of you! Second, I didn’t really mean to create a platform to relitigate whether or not there should be a season this year. Quite the opposite, I’m biased and selfishly glad there WILL be some sort of season. Peace to all!

  5. Except for that lady leading the parade. I'd check her birth certificate if I were other corps.

  6. I think it depends on when that naysaying happened. Last year? Sure. A lot was in the air. By this spring? A lot was clear. Vaccinations were moving rapidly. Corps were able to put things in place. I got kicked out of the 'drum corps friends' facebook group this spring because one of the admins was on a whole tear about how it wasnt safe for members, and those who disagreed with her got the boot.

  7. It's really short. I'm glad there's going to be one. I have a kid that saw his first DCI show when he was 9 years old. He was hooked. And after 7 years of competitive Corps, he will be on the podium to salute the Cavaliers onto the field 28 days from now. Had there been no season this year, he would have had to age out and move on. I realize my perspective is biased. I don't care. I can't wait to see the 10 shows they will have, either live or on FloMarching. And I can't help but think that having these shows as unjudged exhibitions might produce an even more entertaining result. Go get 'em kid.

  8. Sounds like a winner! Ignoring first week issues, but it is great to hear great brass arranging and that trademark Regiment sound is going to come back by the end of the season!

  15. I actually think the 18 number for the front ensemble is legit. Every member was playing their instrument and nobody seemed to be doubling up on a part. I also believe that guard number is real and in a bit of a surprise (to me at least) that section now includes a couple Blue Devils.

  16. Dam, that was a great updated version of a classic PR show. Well done and may the fans enjoy this production this year. (It's too bad the great mello part in the closer didn't come through.) Thank you Beeches72.

  20. IIRC you have to cancel before the 12 months are up or they re-up you without asking. I made sure to send my cancellation a month ahead of time.

  24. Exciting stuff on the fb feed tonight from Chris Holland, Mike Woodall, and the design team. They left no doubt about the fact they do not consider this summer a placeholder year in terms of design. These guys are focused like a laser on continuing the corps upward trajectory. The 52 member guard, high tech props, incredible horn and massive petcussion section all seem to good to be true! I can't wait!

  25. the key is they want die hards that want DCI, WGI and or BOA. honestly i am out judging my local circuit most saturdays so usually if i catch any BOA its Championships weekend. But i do enjoy the WGI stuff a lot. I wish they could get DCA so i wouldnt have to pay for two different services...Flo has its buffering issues, but they've never had a show go dark because a coffee pot was plugged in where the live feed was
