  1. SCV2009 and SCV2010 did not have a "Vanguard" yell. 2011 (Rennick's first year at SCV) and 2012 (Shaw's first year at SCV) did have the yell. Personally, I am pro-yell and pro-cymbal "v". Hopefully both will make an appearance this season!
  2. a) Not sure where you're getting your information, but I can assure you this is not true. Paul is on the road more than he is at home every year. Are all caption heads on the road as much? I don't know, but Paul is certainly not the example to use in this case. b) I agree with this statement. Now it's typical to have two techs per section that rotate throughout the camp season and Summer tour.
  3. Actually, Paul has always been on tour for much of the Summer. His first 4 years at PR (2003-2006) he was on tour virtually the entire time. Once he had children, he cut back, but still spent a majority of the Summer with the corps. At SCV, he is on the road more than 52 days of the Summer tour.
  4. There isn't a full panel of judges tonight, so it will be interesting to see how/if that affects the results. My thoughts: Phantom SCV BK Academy
  5. Word on the street: BD - 80.45 PR - 77.85 SCV - 77.75
  6. The timpanist is a high school senior from Arizona who marched Academy last year. There are two SCV vets in the pit - the percussionist and a vibe player. The number of Phantom vets in the battery is 7 out of a possible 23 spots (4 snares, 2 basses, 1 tenor). I believe only 2 battery members attend UNT.
  7. I believe of the 7 Phantom drummers, only 2 are students at UNT. Also, there are 5 phantom pit vets marching at SCV. Maybe we'll get to hear some pre-season audio soon?
  8. "Phantom's miced solo is very strange....... it is during a pretty soft section and the player was playing very quiet, but it was not turned up loud at all so you could still barely hear it. The player was facing sideways, almost away from the audience to play into the mic, but I could still hear them acoustically better than through the speakers. If they turned towards the audience the solo would have probably been fine even if they played at the same dynamic. I'm not sure what Phantom is trying to do here. It didn't work in my opinion." I asked a friend of mine who teaches there, and he said the only instruments that are miced are the pit. The horn soloist is definitely not miced. I need coffee.
  9. I heard Phantom got a 15.9 in drums, Bluecoats and Cadets had a 15.6, and Crown got a 15.5.
  10. I heard the equipment truck arrived at the show 30 minutes before gate time.
  11. I can watch the On Demand with Firefox with no problem, but I can only get the live stream to work in Safari with the flip4mac plugin.
  12. 13. Unless I'm reading the recap incorrectly.... Pioneer beat the Madison Scouts and the Colts in GE Visual - good for them.
  14. The funny thing is - according to my source, every percussion caption head in DCI was against the removal of Percussion 2. The corps directors were the ones voting, however, and the position was eliminated. Scary. Now with the addition of all sorts of instruments in the pit, you'd think it would be in our best interest to have someone upstairs as well as on the field. Oh well...maybe next year?
  15. I believe the Percussion 2 judge has been eliminated all together.
  16. This is a great idea, but the "powers that be" have other plans. I believe the Percussion caption will now have a field judge only. Percussion 2 - unfortunately eliminated.
  17. Just on the phone with someone at the show and heard scores for PR and Crown. Sounded like 96.575 or something like that for PR and a 96 for Crown.
  18. The perc. 1 judge tonight is the one who was missing from the show a few days ago. My source just told me Phantom got a 19.3 on the field!
  19. Word on the street is that the drum judge did not show, so the music ensemble score was doubled.
  20. Recap specifics for PR and Crown GE Vis - PR 14.1 Crown 13.7 GE Mus - PR 14.6 Crown 13.8 Vis Ens - PR 14.8 Crown 14.1 Music Ens - PR 15.2 Crown 14.7 Perc. - PR 14.9 Crown 14.4
  21. From a staff member reading a recap to me over the phone: PR - 73.6 CC - 70.7 Colts - 65.5 BK - 65.3 MS - 64.1 BS - 64.0
  22. word on the street is that pr won every caption except one....and it wasn't one judged by czapinski or niermeyer.
  23. I asked a reliable source who was waiting with the next corps about that, and he said that was not the case at all.
