Then stop playing music that has dissonance in it...simple Without dissonance, consonance has no meaning. I am tired of squinting and wincing during musical statements...I want to have ears and eyes wide open most of the time with most of the drum corps music presented. Stop trying to stagnate music. Maybe not the departure you wanted, but definitely a completely different direction. Yup...not the departure I was hoping for...well said. Then stop squinting and wincing. These are not normal reactions to the kinds of music heard at drum corps shows. Open your eyes, ears, and most importantly, your mind, and you might see or hear something new that you might like. It is, in fact, a pretty clear departure from last year's quite consonant show. The fact that they consistently do more modern styles of composition with lost of rhythmic intensity and angular phrasing has very little bearing on that fact. It is not the harmony of the suggested piece that puts it in Bluecoats wheelhouse. At no point did I call the clip "ground breaking". Those were your words. However, you seem to think that music should have stopped progressing in the 1800s. The clip referenced is not far outside the realm of modern harmony. I'm sorry that you don't like it, but you don't have to watch it either. There's a hot dog stand with your name on it for those 15 minutes. But complaining about how a corps is programming music that doesn't fit into your very narrow preferences is pointless. Its like telling Picasso that he should paint more like Monet. That's wasn't his style, and being disappointed that he doesn't paint in another style is a waste of time. The point is, if you expect Bluecoats to suddenly play a bunch of happy go lucky all major key music, then your'e going to be waiting a long time. That's not their style, and hasn't been for quite some time. If you're interested in checking out some of the music you'll hear this summer, listen to Mvt. 5 of Steven Bryant's "Concerto for Wind Ensemble." In fact, the United States Air Force Band will be playing this piece at this month's Midwest Clinic in Chicago. Stay tuned for more information on this year's show! Thanks for the info.
