Glassmen News?

In my 34 years, I don't know if I've ever known anyone to frequent a bingo hall.

Heh... years ago, my grandmother spent enough at bingo to fund an entire drum corps!!!

I believe the economy in Toledo area has much to do with the demise of bingo along with casino entry and smoking bans. Many times location has much to do with it. If an area changes many times it lessens to attendance. I believe the key for them is to pull back on expenses and find new sources of income. Somebody earlier said they had a higher expense model than most in their neighborhood, sounds like some areas to back off on. I would think it is better to not have the best of everything but still exist!

Your logic seems sound here (probably problematic on DC Planet). I do hope they put something back out this year. I am afraid if it does not happen this year it will never happen again.

Yes, it is only 61 driving miles to Detroit from Toledo.

Big Michigan/Ohio automobile manufacturers have money problems and get bail-out.

City of Detroit declares bancruptcy.

Glassmen finances go belly-up.

Yup, not hard to see a pattern here.

It would be great to see a plan of action be put out by the board instead of vague we continue to work off debt statements. Unless there is a stated end goal of putting a corps back on the field it is not likely to happen.,

People come and play Bingo. Bingo hall makes a percentage of every game played. Bingo hall sells concessions (lots of them) and makes a percentage. Just takes people to run the games and the concession stand, and as long as the Bingo hall is in an area where they can be successful (i.e., not in a barren, run-down ghetto like Glassmen's was), then the Bingo game makes good money.

I heard something about Blue Devils organization just building or finishing a NEW Bingo hall. If done correctly, it makes ungodly amounts of cash.

Wasn't there a hullabaloo a few years back concerning changes in the bingo laws in the Peoples republic of California? IIRC SCV, BD, and other corps w/ bingo operations were predicting the end of the money stream.

What changed? Anyone know what happened? Much ado about nothing? Crying 'wolf'?

Just curious

Just my two cents.

The organization is done for. No communication between the board and alumni, board and fans, and probably board and board. All they do is ask for money but dont tell you where its going or how much they still owe. The alumni have tried (and still are but are getting frustrated) to raise money and bring the corps back. How about a BOD that will update you and actually do something?

I don't disagree with you in that if we haven't heard anything, they might not be coming back. But who really knows?

I guess it merits a separate topic that alumni can only do so much monetarily in a music activity, specifically one where there are a lot of music majors.

Working for a huge non-profit, and partly in a communications role, it's always better to provide information where people don't have to actively search for it. Then after searching still coming up with nothing.

There was a Native American run casino/bingo hall opening up in Concord, and BD had some petitions put out that put a stop to it, because it would have ruined their main source of income.

The bingo programs are pretty much what make SCV and BD the most financially stable corps out there, those little old ladies are keeping them going. And they get very into their bingo games, I've seen fights almost break out at bingo games because someone took someone else's "lucky seat"
