Madison Scouts 2014 -- Playing the Music of Stan Kenton and Don Ellis

My point is there is nothing wrong with field goals so why get rid of them and there is nothing wrong with g horns or Bb horns so why add to them. If it isn't broke don't fix it.

Then clearly you don't care about drum corps. Just your version of drum corps and what you think it should be. That mindset is prevalent on these forums and quite selfish if you ask me.

Your attitude is just about as prevalent, and at least as misguided. How hard is it to understand that some people love drum corps because of qualities A, B, and C, and that as those qualities are stripped away, those people are forced to decide that drum corps doesn't exist anymore? Surely there's some hypothetical change that would push even you to that point? (Woodwinds, perhaps?)

I agree with BigBadMadMan. I've been a huge fan of the corps since the early 1970s; not an alum.

I always figured woodwinds would be the final straw. My enjoyment of the activity has diminished as all the numerous changes of the past decade have gradually stripped away the essence of traditional drum and bugle corps. The thought of the Scouts or Phantom Regiment playing trombones...it's no long drum corps. It's just marching band. No thanks. Done.

So once again, someone popping in here and making it about the new BRASS instruments. Of course woodwinds just got mentioned, but you were fine with Bb, electronics, etc.?

As a PROUD Madison Scouts alum, I am not going to abandon the activity, nor my younger brothers, that's not the value system I learned when I was marching.

I was taught not to do these types of things, but rather be supportive, and value my brotherhood, and all my brothers, past, present, and future.

Oh, and go Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps! You're going to be great this summer, and your brothers that are in it for the right reasons, as well as the fans, that are in it for the right reasons will stand behind you.

I'm quite looking forward to Madison this summer, they really won me over last year.....seems like it's going to be classic Scouts.

And besides, the Scouts have had 2 female performers, so that's been done

They marched a woman in the American flag section at 1980 VFW Nationals too. Make it at least 3 women who've marched with them.

Hey because kickers in the NFL can make 97 percent of field goals means the NFL should eliminate fg. Because 95 percent of Drum corps sound great using existing horns DCI should add all brass. I preferred g "bugles" to the Bb. I would argue 90 percent of those that watch DC wouldn't be able to tell the difference by adding trombone s and the likes if they didn't see them on the field. Hence change for change sake.

The NFL is looking at doing away with kicking the point after touchdown.
