Cadets 2015

Recommended Posts

Well I guess we will all have to agree to disagree. I want the 90s/Early 2000s Cadets back. This year we are gonna get it. I'm sure of it.

You and me both! IMO 1991-early 2000s was a great era both competitively and entertainment-wise for Cadets. While not all of those shows excelled with the judges, very few of them 'missed' IMO: I even really liked 1991, their lowest-placing show since before their 1983 championship. Even their 80's era of 4 Championships in 5 years, while incredibly impressive (and I LOVE those 4 shows), was not as awesome as their 1990-2005 era.

I loved their 1991 show too. That was right near the beginning of my love affair with drum corps, and I must have watched that broadcast 100 times or more. I can still hum the whole thing start to finish.

Probably the best 6th place show ever!

I absolutely loved Prelude Fugue and Riffs in '91. That was a very strong year for drum corps with so many fantastic shows.

Happy St. Cyril of Jerusalem day, sandwiched between St. Patrick's and St. Joseph's.

So what did Hopkins say last night with Jay Bocook on the webinar??? (Only an Englishman schedules something on 3/17, right Shayne O'Brien, the Cadets recent age-out from County Tipperary.)

I'd be interested in Bocook's insights.

I was too busy shuttling the cousins from Ireland and band who marched the NYC (World's largest parade.)

H.S. band from Osaka, Japan which marched here had tonality that would have made Carolina Crown blush. They marched 14 Concert french horns. Cadets should observe. I understand this Japanese band (who played "Rocky" and "I Love NY" was national champions.

They said very little about 2015 on the Bocook webinar. Talked about the 90s for a little bit -- 93 ("Holsinger is made for drum corps"), 95 ("wish JW would allow more arrangements"), 98 ("we're changing the show!!!" as the story goes). Then 00 (the usual stories), 04 (one of GH's least favorites, but he and Jay listened to it this week), 13 ("Jay's show"). Discussed Bocook's career a bit and why he said "yes" to GH/Cadets back in 92. Played a midi clip of the 15 closer.
